GE Aerospace and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) announced that an agreement was made for GE Aerospace F404 engines to power HÜRJET aircraft. Representing a significant milestone for the HÜRJET platform, the agreement strengthens GE Aerospace’s role as a reliable propulsion system partner for advanced military aircraft programs, while ensuring continuity of technical and operational support as the program expands its footprint and develops future variants.
TAI General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu, whose evaluation was included in the statement made by GE Aerospace, said, “While the HÜRJET Jet Training Aircraft represents an important forward-looking threshold in terms of TAI’s aviation and defense capabilities, this agreement is a critical turning point for the program. Our long-standing cooperation with GE Aerospace continues to provide critical propulsion capabilities that support the success of HÜRJET as a modern, reliable and globally competitive training platform.
This agreement further strengthens our vision and industrial competencies.” It also reinforces it.” he said. Emphasizing the strategic importance of the agreement, GE Aerospace Defense and Systems Global Sales and Business Development Vice President Rita Flaherty said, “We are honored by TAI’s trust in GE Aerospace as a propulsion system partner for advanced military aircraft and the increasing momentum gained by the HÜRJET program.
As HÜRJET takes its place on the global stage, we are proud to support TAI and contribute to Turkey’s ongoing rise as a key actor in the defense and aerospace ecosystem.” made his assessment. HÜRJET is powered by the GE Aerospace F404 engine, which is a combat-proven and extremely reliable platform that is widely used in advanced training and combat aircraft around the world. The aircraft is designed to meet modern training mission requirements by offering advanced avionics, high performance and operational flexibility for air forces seeking next-generation solutions.
The fact that F404-powered aircraft are in the inventories of 16 nations and are currently on order reflects this turbofan engine’s position as one of the most versatile engines in its class and a proven choice for air force applications around the world. TUSAŞ Motor Sanayii AŞ (TEI), a joint venture company established between GE Aerospace and TAI in 1985, stands out as one of the most successful aviation partnerships in the region.
In the process built on this strong foundation, TAI played a central role in transforming HÜRJET into a competitive, advanced jet trainer aircraft platform in the industry. The two agreements signed at the 2024 Farnborough Airshow and the 2025 IDEF directly contributed to the signing of the contract, laying the groundwork for further cooperation. GE Aerospace and TAI have a nearly 40-year strategic partnership dating back to the F110 engines that power the Turkish Air Force’s F-16 fleet.
This strong partnership covers many aerospace and defense programs, including KAAN powered by GE Aerospace F110 engines and HÜRJET powered by F404 engines. Source: AA
