Doruk Mining workers, affiliated with Yılmazlar SSS Holding, started a march from Eskişehir to Ankara under the leadership of the Independent Mining Workers’ Union to demand unpaid salaries and other progress payments, and this march, which started on June 13, made a big impact throughout the country. Following the protests that continued until June 28, the employer side, under the guarantee of the ministries, announced that the payments of Doruk Madencilik workers would be made as soon as possible, and the protests ended thereupon.
DRIVERS WERE THREATENED However, the workers stated that the promises were not kept and announced that they would start the protest again on June 1. Independent Mining Labor Union, which made an evaluation about the workers who came to the Ministry of Internal Affairs today and announced that they would protest, claimed that the buses provided for the workers to reach Ankara were canceled for the third time and the workers were blocked on the way to Ankara.
In the statement made on the union’s social media account, the following statements were made: “Today, for the third time, the buses we provided for the miners to reach Ankara were canceled due to threats of punishment from the police and the government.” The statement also claimed that the bus drivers were threatened by the police that they would be fined, while the workers said the following: “We will come even if you cancel it a hundred times.
Instead of dealing with buses, fines and threats, give us our usurped rights.” WORKERS’ DEMANDS HAVE BEEN CLEAR Announcing that they will continue their protests until the unpaid compensation and salaries are paid, Doruk Mining workers stated that the promises made by the three ministers were not kept. Workers stated that although a commitment was made to make payment before the holiday, no payment has yet been made, and therefore they are determined to start the action again as of June 1.
The workers announced that they will end their protests if all their outstanding receivables are paid in full, the wages and insurance premiums for the periods during which they were put on unpaid leave are paid, and all past missing and deserved payments are made. Following the developments, new statements and possible developments regarding the process are eagerly awaited.
