Yaşar İpek, one of the well-known names in the music world, lost the case in which he was tried on the grounds of the posts he made on his social media account regarding the operations carried out by Israel in Gaza. The legal process, which started after the criminal complaint of the Chief Rabbinate Foundation of Türkiye, ended with a serious result. During the trial held at the Istanbul 21st Criminal Court of First Instance, Ipek’s lawyer claimed that his client was not criticizing the Jewish community in Turkey, but only those who support Israel’s military actions.
Despite the defense, the court described the posts in question as “a threat to create fear and anxiety among the public” and imposed a basic prison sentence of 2 years. Concluding that the action was carried out through the media, the court increased the sentence by fifty percent and brought the final figure to 3 years. Ipek, who published a post on Instagram with her lawyer immediately after the decision, reiterated once again that she opposes the Zionist Israeli state and its soldiers.
“I WILL LIFE AS MUCH AS NECESSARY” The artist said that the punishment would not make him give up his human values and added that he was ready to serve as much prison time as necessary. His lawyer argued that the decision was wrong and announced that they would appeal and expressed his confidence that the upper court would overturn this decision.
