While a new judicial process began in the file opened regarding Dorukhan Büyükışık’s death in a construction site in Narlıdere district of Izmir in 2018, it was learned that the incident was first considered as a fall from a height or suicide, but within the scope of new findings following the applications made by the family, the investigation turned into suspicion of intentional homicide. At the hearing held in Izmir, the court decided to combine two separate trials on the grounds that there was a connection between the files, and some police personnel who worked throughout the investigation, as well as the construction site personnel involved in the incident, were included in the file, thus increasing the number of defendants to 13.
COLLECTION OF EVIDENCE IS INSUFFICIENT. In the investigation file, it was stated that there were some deficiencies in the crime scene investigation, that the evidence was not collected sufficiently and that the camera recordings were handled irregularly. In addition, the court decided to send the file to the Izmir 21st High Criminal Court for a more comprehensive trial. With this decision, it was noted that the file would be handled within the scope of a multifaceted criminal investigation beyond the possibility of a work accident or suicide.
NEW EVIDENCE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE FILE. It has been learned that the long-running legal struggle of Dorukhan Büyükışık’s family was effective in the re-examination of the file, and especially his father Ethem Büyükışık played an active role in adding new evidence to the file. Combining the files is considered an important development in terms of expanding the scope of the investigation.
