Rheinmetall signed a new contract worth 1.04 billion euros within the scope of the expansion and modernization of the “Future Infantry Soldier – Improved System” program (IdZ-ES) for the German Army. The order was placed by Germany’s defense procurement agency BAAINBw. The contract covers the modernization of existing systems as well as the delivery of 237 additional tooling systems. Deliveries are planned to take place between November 2027 and December 2029.

Within the scope of the program, it is aimed to equip approximately 8,600 additional soldiers with new equipment. Upon completion of the program, the German Army will have a total of 353 platoon systems and more than 12,000 individual equipment sets in its inventory. Each team system includes individual equipment used by approximately 35 soldiers and support elements such as affinity technology systems, optical and optronic equipment.

Acting as the main contractor, Rheinmetall undertakes the coordination of more than 30 subcontractors within the scope of the program. The updated system architecture removes outdated components and offers improved communication and data exchange capabilities, including integration with vehicle platforms and connection to Germany’s “Digitalization of Land-Based Operations” (D-LBO) network. The agreement in question is part of a broader framework agreement signed in 2025, worth up to 3.1 billion euros.

The program stands out as the largest procurement program in this field for both Rheinmetall and the German Army.
