Hungary received delivery of two new Saab JAS 39 Gripen C type fighter jets. It was announced that the aircraft received will be used by the 101st Aviation Wing based at Kecskemét Air Base. The delivery was carried out within the framework of the agreement signed between the Hungarian Ministry of Defense and the Swedish Defense Procurement Administration in 2024. Within the scope of the agreement in question, a total of four aircraft are expected to be supplied by Saab.

While the two aircraft delivered constitute the first batch of the order, the remaining aircraft are planned to be delivered in the future. Hungary has been using Gripen warplanes since 2006. With the latest procurement and modernization efforts, the country’s fleet is aimed to reach a total of 18 Gripen C/D aircraft with updated standards. Officials stated that the program supports the long-term modernization plans of the Hungarian Air Force, and that the cooperation with Saab also includes industrial and capability development initiatives in the country.
