Hyundai Motor Company has launched its second model under the IONIQ brand, dedicated to fully electric vehicles (BEVs).
The second model, called IONIQ 6 and produced on the E-GMP platform, was developed aerodynamically in accordance with Hyundai’s Electrified Streamliner product range. Developed using sustainable materials to meet the expectations of today’s electric car users, the innovative IONIQ 6 offers a range of advanced technologies and personalized spaces. The car, which is expected to add value to the Hyundai brand in terms of future technologies, is equipped with high-end features and also offers an extended range to redefine the boundaries of electric mobility.
IONIQ 6 offers a range of up to 614 km per charge according to the “Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP)” standard. In addition to this feature, it also offers ultra-fast, 400 volt/800 volt multiple charging opportunity, thanks to Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP. IONIQ 6, the most aerodynamic car Hyundai has ever produced, takes the electric mobility experience to the next level with features such as Dual-Color Ambient Lighting, Speed-Sensitive Interior Lighting, EV Performance Settings and Electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD).
Unique exterior design
Inspired by Hyundai’s Prophecy EV Concept, the new electric model IONIQ 6 is characterized by an aerodynamic form rising on clean and simple lines, which the brand designers define as “Emotional Efficiency”. Continuing the brand’s superior design strategy with IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 was prepared taking into account different lifestyles rather than a single style approach.
Thanks to extensive aerodynamic design and engineering studies, Hyundai has fully maximized the electric driving range of IONIQ 6. The technological vehicle’s ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.21 means the lowest value in the brand’s product range and also stands out as one of the lowest figures in the automotive world.
The aerodynamic appearance of IONIQ 6 is shaped by certain design details. Various design elements such as the active air flap, wheel air curtains, integrated rear spoiler and wheel clearance reducers significantly increase the aerodynamic performance of the model, placing it among the most elegant vehicles worldwide. In short, IONIQ 6 manages to attract attention as a magnificent car in terms of both visuality and battery efficiency. IONIQ 6 includes more than 700 Parametric Pixel details in various places such as headlights, taillights, lower front sensors, ventilation grilles and center console indicator to strengthen the brand identity throughout its design. The extraordinary technological car is available in 11 exciting different body colours, including three new shades for this special digital age.
Perfect interior
The cocoon-shaped interior of IONIQ 6 offers a comfortable seating area and includes many details that will be useful in daily use. It has been developed with practical features and sustainable materials to facilitate a superior mobility experience and an environmentally friendly lifestyle. While a long wheelbase of 2,950 mm draws attention in the car, the fact that Hyundai designers used optimized legroom that makes the occupants comfortable is also a plus point.
Engineers expanded the interior, front and rear parts to create more spaciousness and offer maximum comfort on long or short journeys with a completely flat floor. Especially those sitting in the back can enjoy an ultra-comfortable travel experience thanks to the high level of width.
The user-oriented interior architecture of the model stands out with a centrally located ergonomic control unit to reduce distraction and promote safe driving. The 12.3-inch instrument panel with touch screen and the 12.3-inch full touch infotainment screen emphasize the new generation of digitalization. The bridge-type center console also provides extremely useful and generous storage space.
Dual-colour ambient lighting provides general illumination of the vehicle interior and increases the personalized appearance of the cabin. Users can choose from 64 colors developed by Hyundai color experts to make them feel comfortable and comfortable. The relaxing comfortable seats, which are approximately 30 percent thinner than other conventional models, take in-car entertainment to the top even with just a change in angle.
In line with IONIQ 6’s theme of ethical uniqueness, designers inspired by today’s environmentally conscious consumers use recycled materials, from end-of-life tires to coatings. Completely sustainable materials were used, including pigment paint and some parts of the interior. Depending on the equipment level, eco-process leather seats, fabric seats from recycled pet bottles, bio TPO front panel, bio pet fabric ceiling covering, bio paint obtained from vegetable oils for the doors and most recycled waste materials are welcomed back to life in the cabin of IONIQ 6.
Powerful electrical system
IONIQ 6 is available with a variety of motors and battery packs to meet every customer’s needs without compromising performance. Users can choose between two different battery options. The long-range 77.4 kWh battery is paired with a dual electric motor setup. According to the strategy of the markets where it will be sold; The car, which can be preferred as rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (AWD), exhibits values such as 239 kW (325 PS) power and 605 Nm torque, thanks to its dual engine installation.
Thanks to this powerful electric (PE) configuration, IONIQ 6, which resembles a sports car, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds.
While IONIQ 6 delivers impressive performance, it also has an extremely efficient energy consumption rate. In addition to the four-wheel drive system, the RWD, that is, rear-wheel drive single engine option, has a standard battery of 53 kWh. The energy consumption of this battery version is 13.9 kWh per 100 km (WLTP combined). This consumption makes IONIQ 6 one of the most economical vehicles in the automotive industry.
Ultra-fast 800-volt battery charging and Vehicle Power Supply (V2L)
IONIQ 6’s superior E-GMP architecture can support 400 and 800 volt charging infrastructures as standard. The car can also use 400-volt charging without the need for additional components or adapters. IONIQ 6 can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes with an ultra-fast 350 kW charger and can reach a range of 351 km with 15 minutes of charging.
IONIQ 6 users can charge any electric device such as an electric bike, scooter or camping equipment using the vehicle’s internal battery or turn it on instantly whenever they want.
Safety and comfort
IONIQ 6 is equipped with the next level of “Hyundai Smart Sense” technology, the brand’s “Advanced Driver Assistance Systems”. Thanks to this high-level equipment, it provides safety and comfort while cruising. Using an advanced front view camera, “Highway Driving Assistant 2- (HDA 2)” helps the vehicle keep a certain distance from the vehicle in front while driving and increase or decrease its speed when necessary. This system helps center the vehicle in the lane during curves and assists the driver when changing lanes. HDA 2 also enables IONIQ 6 to achieve Level 2 autonomous driving. Among other active safety systems, Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Forward Collision Prevention Assist (FCA), Blind Spot Collision Prevention Assist (BCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Intelligent Front Lighting System (IFS) and more are offered for both protection and high-level comfort in the technological car.
IONIQ 6’s personalized driving experience adapts steering responses (sport, normal), power output (maximum, normal, minimum), accelerator sensitivity (high, normal, low) and traction system (AWD, AUTO AWD, 2WD) according to driving modes.
IONIQ 6, which recently achieved an excellent performance in the “Adult Passenger”, “Child Passenger” and “Safety Assistant” categories in the Euro NCAP safety test and achieved the maximum five-star safety rating, was also awarded the “Best in Class” award of 2022 in the “Large Family Car” category by Euro NCAP.
Hyundai’s special brand for electric models: IONIQ
Hyundai Motor Company established a special brand for its battery electric vehicles (BEV) in 2020 and named it IONIQ. The name IONIQ actually appeared with a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric model launched in 2016. Hyundai has opened a new page as a leader in the era of electric mobility and has become fully branded for its IONIQ product line. Acting in line with the brand’s vision of “Progress for Humanity”, IONIQ will attract attention with its special solutions for various lifestyles.
The new era that started with IONIQ 5 will continue with IONIQ 6 in 2023, and in 2024, IONIQ 7, a new SUV model of the brand, will meet with car lovers. The creation of the IONIQ brand is described as a very important move to meet the rapidly growing market demand and also reveals Hyundai’s plan to lead the global EV market.
E-GMP architecture
IONIQ 6 is the second Hyundai model based on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). E-GMP serves as a core technology for the brand’s new generation BEV series and stands out as an extremely flexible platform to be used in all models. Designed specifically for BEVs, E-GMP provides several advantages compared to platforms developed for internal combustion engines.
Among the prominent benefits of the platform: It features increased development flexibility, strong driving performance, increased driving range, strengthened safety features, seating position and high-volume luggage capacities. E-GMP can be used by most vehicles, including sedans, SUVs and CUVs, and it also allows for model evolution, reducing complexity through modularization and standardization.
E-GMP also offers improved cornering performance and driving stability at high speed. Thus, excellent handling is achieved thanks to the optimum weight distribution between the front and rear and the low-positioned battery. Typically; Thanks to the five-link rear suspension system used for medium and large-sized vehicle segments, ride comfort and handling balance are increased.
The platform ensures battery safety through a battery support structure made of ultra-high-strength steel. Pressed steel components surround this structure for additional rigidity. The energy-absorbing parts of the body and chassis aim to minimize damage by effectively absorbing energy during a possible collision.
V2L vehicle power supply and charging
In addition to the impressive range performance of the IONIQ 6, it has an ideal powertrain for the electrical needs that can be used during activities such as camping or any outdoor entertainment. The vehicle power supply, called V2L, operates the car like a giant power bank. With this system, which is activated using an existing accessory adapter, the vehicle instantly provides 220V city electricity. The V2L function can provide up to 3.6 kW and charge another EV vehicle at the same time.
The technological marvel Hyundai IONIQ 6, which started to be sold in Europe, will meet Turkish consumers in the second half of the year with various battery and hardware levels.
