2024 New Subaru Forester Euro NCAP Evaluation
The new Subaru Forester has once again proven its safety standards by receiving the maximum five-star overall rating within the framework of the European New Vehicle Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). This new model achieved high scores, exceeding the minimum thresholds set in four main evaluation areas (Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users, Safety Assist).
Child Passenger Safety
In the child passenger evaluation area, the New Forester managed to achieve maximum scores in Frontal and Side Crash Performance, focusing on children between 6 and 10 years old. Additionally, CRS child seat attachment performance also received full marks. In the frontal offset crash test and the more serious side-to-pillar crash tests, the New Forester provided effective protection for critical body areas and achieved maximum scores in this section.
Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a reliable system that will automatically deactivate the front passenger airbag when a rear-facing child safety seat is used. The new Forester is also supported by an indirect “child detection” system (Back Seat Reminder) that detects that a child or baby may be forgotten in the vehicle and warns the driver. In this way, all child seat types designed for the Forester can be properly installed in the vehicle, except for the iSize seat in the middle rear position.
Vulnerable Road Users Assessment
In the evaluation area for sensitive road users (bicycles and motorcycles), the New Forester received maximum points in the AEB Lane Assist for Cyclists and Motorcyclists category. Forester’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system can effectively react to both other vehicles and cyclists and motorcycle users. This system has demonstrated good performance in detecting cyclists and responding to them in a timely manner. It works effectively in all scenarios, such as approaching an intersecting cyclist, cyclists coming out from behind parked vehicles, or cyclists riding along the roadside.
Providing a similar performance for motorcyclists, the AEB system has achieved good results in both approaching stationary motorcycles and reacting to braking motorcycles. The lane support offered for motorcyclists also received maximum points and was successful in the scenarios of passing into the path of an oncoming motorcyclist and overtaking motorcycles. While the head protection of a pedestrian or cyclist who was hit was provided at a very good level, pelvis, thigh, knee and shin protection also showed satisfactory results.
Adult Passenger Safety
Forester, which has been completely renewed in the adult passenger evaluation area, managed to get maximum points in the side barrier test and the more severe side pillar crash test. Protection of all critical body areas was successfully achieved. Results close to the maximum score were also obtained in the Rear Impact tests performed on the front and rear seats. Analysis of impact vehicle deceleration during testing reveals that the Forester would be a moderately compatible crash partner in a frontal collision.
Tests on front seats and head restraints have shown that they provide effective protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear impact. The geometric analysis of the rear seats also offers good protection against neck injuries. Tests showed that the passenger compartment remained stable during the frontal offset crash test, while dummy measurements revealed that the knees and thighs of the driver and passenger were well protected, as well as passengers of different sizes and those seated in different positions. The level of protection provided for all critical body parts of the passenger is quite satisfactory.
