As the joint development program nears completion, South Korea and Indonesia have reached a preliminary agreement to deliver a prototype of the KF-21 fighter jet. According to the information provided by Deputy Kang Dae-sik, the aircraft whose transfer is considered; A single-seat prototype used in testing activities and took part in various trials, including air refueling tests. The value of the transfer in question is calculated as approximately 600 billion won (approximately 398 million dollars).
This amount covers both the aircraft itself and related development costs. The KF-21 program was launched by South Korea in 2015; Indonesia joined as a partner, contributing to development costs in exchange for technology transfer and access to program outcomes. South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) will decide when to transfer the prototype after Indonesia completes the agreed-upon financial contribution.
Additionally, a potential agreement for the export of 16 KF-21 aircraft is also being discussed between the two countries.
