While the mystery behind the production, which is considered one of the modern classics of science fiction cinema and changed our perception of space-time, has finally been revealed, master director Steven Spielberg has stated clearly for the first time that he went through a serious preparation process for a year to direct the movie Interstellar. This epic production, which met with the audience in 2014 under the signature of Christopher Nolan and reached cult status, actually began to take shape in the hands of Steven Spielberg, another genius in the history of cinema.

Speaking to Empire magazine as part of the press tour of his new project, Disclosure Day, the legendary director candidly explained the excitement he experienced in the early stages of the project and why he withdrew at the last minute. Scientific Foundations and JPL Visits Steven Spielberg stated that he devoted a year to this project, which was brought to him by producer Lynda Obst and world-famous astrophysicist Kip Thorne.

His passion for the film’s grounding in scientific reality took him to the facilities of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena. Spielberg stated that he had hours of deep conversations with the scientists and aerospace engineers here and did extensive research on wormholes and the theory of relativity. This fascination with the depths of space actually proves that the cornerstones of the film were laid by Spielberg.

Jonathan Nolan and the Birth of the Script One of the most critical moves in the development process of the project was Spielberg’s hiring of Jonathan Nolan to write the script. Jonathan Nolan, the creator of “Westworld,” prepared the first two drafts of the script for Spielberg. However, after a few drafts, Spielberg realized that the story did not fully align with his vision. Spielberg summarizes this situation with the following words: “Jonah (Jonathan) clearly told me: ‘If at some point you decide not to make this movie, I know who will get this project.

My brother Chris is already giving me trouble about this.'” The day after Spielberg decided to withdraw from the project, Christopher Nolan joined the project. Two Different Visions: Spielberg or Nolan? Steven Spielberg has a very modest approach to the transfer of the Interstellar project to Christopher Nolan. “Interstellar became a much better movie in Chris Nolan’s hands than it would have been in my hands,” said the master director, admitting that the cool-headedness and technical depth that Nolan brought to the science fiction genre played a key role in the success of the film.

Christopher Nolan also confirmed in a previous interview that he did not want to miss the opportunity when Spielberg withdrew to focus on another film project. Global Success and Awards Night Interstellar, which was released in November 2014, was a great commercial success, grossing $681 million worldwide. The film, which received five Oscar nominations, was remembered especially for its visual effects and music by Hans Zimmer.

Spielberg’s contributions in the early stages and his involvement in the process laid the foundation for the film’s current success; Nolan’s inheritance was recorded as one of the most successful relay races in the history of cinema.
