Apple released iOS 26.6 beta 1 to developers. While the new version started the last interim update process of the iOS 26 period before WWDC 2026, a small but noticeable user warning appeared in the first beta. iOS 26.6 beta 1 will now directly notify users who have reached the limit in the blocked contacts list. A new warning came to the blocked contacts list with iOS 26.6 beta 1. iOS 26.6 beta 1, published by Apple, took its place in the developer channel with build number 23G5028e.
On the same day, new beta versions for iPadOS 26.6, macOS 26.6, tvOS 26.6, visionOS 26.6 and watchOS 26.6 were also released. iOS 26.6 beta 1 can be downloaded from Settings as the new test version following iOS 26.5. The new version does not include major interface changes or many new features. The main focus of the update is bug fixes, performance improvements and the latest adjustments of the iOS 26 period. Despite this, a new warning was discovered regarding the list of blocked contacts in the first beta.
iOS imposes a certain upper limit for blocked contacts and numbers on iPhone. Apple does not explicitly highlight this limit in the user interface, but with iOS 26.6 beta 1, the user is now notified by the system when the limit is reached. The warning says that the user who wants to block more contacts must first remove some of the existing blocked contacts from Settings. The warning text seen in the beta code states that the blocked contact limit has been reached and that one blocked contact must be removed from Settings to block additional callers.
This change directly concerns users who have blocked a large number of numbers or contacts on iPhone. The blocked contact limit is an area that is not visible for most users in daily use. Despite this, some user reports state that the number of blocked records in new iOS versions can reach up to 20 thousand, and that some users who have reached around 8 thousand blocked contacts and numbers experience slowdown and hanging problems.
The timing of iOS 26.6 is also noteworthy. Apple will hold its WWDC26 opening presentation on Monday, June 8 at 20:00 CET. The company will demonstrate its latest software and technologies at the event. iOS 27 is expected to take the stage at this event and the first developer beta is expected to be released after the keynote. One of the most talked about topics on the iOS 27 side will be the new era of Siri. Abilities such as understanding screen content, using personal context, and taking action between applications have long been on the agenda for more advanced Siri features within Apple Intelligence.
On the iPhone side, Apple limits Apple Intelligence compatibility to iPhone 15 Pro models and newer devices. Reports about the new version of Siri also highlight an infrastructure connected to Google’s Gemini model. According to information from Bloomberg cited by Reuters, Apple is close to an agreement worth approximately $1 billion annually to benefit from Google’s 1.2 trillion-parameter Gemini model in the renewed version of Siri.
How this information will be positioned on stage by Apple will become clear at WWDC 2026. iOS 26.6 beta 1 can be controlled by users who are included in the Apple Beta Software Program or the developer beta channel via the Settings, General, Software Update menu. Since application incompatibilities, battery consumption and stability problems may occur in daily use in beta versions, it is necessary to take a backup before installation on main devices.
