TRABZON (AA) – "Turkey-Romania Trade and Energy Summit", where new collaborations between Turkey and Romania in the fields of energy, investment, trade and infrastructure will be discussed, was held in Trabzon.

Speaking at the summit organized in a hotel in Yomra district in cooperation with the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB) and Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TTSO), Romania’s Honorary Consul in Trabzon, Mustafa Beyazlı, said that the long-standing friendship of the two countries also manifests itself in trade.

Stating that there is a trade volume of 13 to 15 billion dollars between Turkey and Romania, Beyazlı said, “Turkey’s direct investments there are at the level of 9-10 billion dollars. Romania is also important in terms of offering various opportunities to foreign investors and being our neighboring country. Our relations with Romania are not only limited to trade, but also a partner in the union of countries bordering the Black Sea.

It is a gate opening to Europe, the Black Sea. It is a friendly country that we can trust in terms of logistics.” he said. Beyazlı added that Turkey has significant investments in the energy, logistics, food, retail and automotive sectors in Romania and that the meeting will bring bilateral relations closer. Indonesia’s Honorary Consul in Trabzon, Kadem Çakıroğlu, emphasized that the Black Sea is rapidly progressing towards becoming one of the important centers of international trade, energy and investment networks with its strategic location and economic potential.

TTSO Chairman Erkut Çelebi also pointed out that renewable energy is important for the world and said, “In Europe, they follow the carbon footprint, where the product is produced, and how much it pollutes the environment. On this occasion, renewable energy will be even more important.” he said. At the summit, where DKİB Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and Arsin Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) President Dursun Ali Sakarya and Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD) Trabzon Branch President Mesut İskenderoğlu also spoke, the dance team from Romania performed their local shows.

The summit will end today after the presentations of sector representatives and bilateral meetings.
