ANKARA (AA) – Within the scope of the “Blood for the Patient, Life for the Forest” project initiated by the Turkish Red Crescent and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry last year, 4.7 million saplings were planted in the name of 1.5 million blood donors in approximately 6 months. According to the statement made by the Turkish Red Crescent, with the “Blood for the Patient, Life for the Forest” project initiated by the Turkish Red Crescent and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to encourage voluntary blood donation and to contribute to the afforestation efforts carried out across the country, three saplings are planted on behalf of the donor for each unit of blood donation.

In this context, a total of 4 million 738 thousand 200 saplings were planted on behalf of 1 million 579 thousand 400 donors who voluntarily donated blood to the Turkish Red Crescent between 23 June and 31 December last year. – Planting activities were carried out in 10 provinces damaged by fires. Planting activities were carried out in 10 provinces, including Balıkesir, Bursa, Çanakkale, Denizli, Mersin, İzmir, Manisa, Muğla, Tekirdağ and Uşak, primarily in areas damaged by fires.

Within the scope of the project, the General Directorate of Forestry sends a special certificate of appreciation to volunteer blood donors and provides information about the saplings planted in their names. Turkish Red Crescent and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry ensured that a total of 9 million 744 thousand 347 saplings were planted in the soil within the scope of their cooperation between 2014 and 2019.
