BYD launched the 2026 version of its small electric model, sold under the name Seagull in China and known as Dolphin Mini or Dolphin Surf in global markets. The new model, which comes in four different versions, has updated the brand’s entry-level electric family with a price starting from 69 thousand 900 yuan, a CLTC range of up to 405 kilometers and an optional LiDAR supported driving assistance system. What does the new BYD Dolphin Mini offer?
The 2026 BYD Dolphin Mini is sold in China with 305 kilometers and 405 kilometers range options. The price was announced as 69 thousand 900 yuan for the 305-kilometer Vitality Edition, and 78 thousand 900 yuan for the Freedom Edition with the same range. While the 405-kilometer Zizai Edition was again listed at 78 thousand 900 yuan, the 405-kilometer-range Flying Edition was listed at 85 thousand 900 yuan. When the God’s Eye B, i.e.
DiPilot 300 package containing LiDAR is preferred, the prices increase to 90 thousand 900 yuan and 97 thousand 900 yuan. A single electric motor is used in all versions of the model. This engine produces 55 kW, that is, approximately 74 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque. There are two options on the battery side. While the 30.08 kWh capacity battery offers a range of 305 kilometers according to CLTC measurement, the 38.88 kWh capacity battery provides a range of 405 kilometers.
These values are explained according to the CLTC standard used in China; Lower range values may be seen in measurement standards such as WLTP in different markets. The most striking innovation of the new Dolphin Mini was the optional LiDAR supported DiPilot 300 system. This package brings features such as urban navigation-assisted driving, traffic light detection and assisted progress at intersections. On the security side, driver monitoring system, automatic emergency braking and five-way driving recording system are also included in the equipment list.
BYD also made an update on the cabin side. The vehicle has a DiLink 150 system and a 12.8-inch high-resolution central screen. 3D vehicle control and customized navigation features can be used via this screen. The interior features a new color theme called Oatmeal Rice. On the hardware side, 50W wireless phone charging, heated front seats and a 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat are offered. Updated details stand out in the design instead of a major body change.
2026 BYD Dolphin Mini; It comes with two new exterior color options, Mango Orange and Mint Green. Among the existing colors, Warm Sun White and Peach Powder options are also preserved. The vehicle has 16-inch Starlight wheels, renewed LED taillights and a new logo light design. The compact city car character is preserved in terms of dimensions. The new Dolphin Mini has a length of 3,780 mm, a width of 1,715 mm and a height of 1,540 mm.
The wheelbase was announced as 2,500 mm. These dimensions show that the model is positioned especially for urban use, narrow streets and parking areas. BYD Dolphin Mini’s competition in China is also getting tougher. The model reached its peak with sales of 34 thousand 5 units in China in April last year. After 30 thousand 708 units were sold in June, monthly sales did not exceed 30 thousand units again. New electric models in the same segment, especially Geely Xingyuan, have an impact on this decline.
Models such as Arcfox T1 and Leapmotor A10 are among the options that increase competition in the small electric vehicle class.
