DIYARBAKIR (AA) – MEHMET SIDDIK KAYA – 6 drilling wells are being opened for oil in the Dicle University (DU) campus of Diyarbakır. A 10-year operating agreement was signed between DU management and PETAR Doğal Gaz ve Petrol Araştırma AŞ, the only company with an exploration and operating license in the region, at the university campus located in the central Sur district of Diyarbakır. Within the scope of the project, which will be implemented with a total investment of 20 million dollars, 6 drilling wells for oil will be opened in the first stage in two locations on a 45 thousand square meter area of the campus.
– “There will be an oil supply of approximately 150 barrels per day” DU Rector Prof. Dr. Kamuran Eronat told the AA correspondent that they were greatly surprised when they first received the news, emphasizing that an oil reserve, not natural gas, had been discovered in the field. “We were surprised when the news that oil was found in our university first came to us. Since Diyarbakır oil region and our university has the 2nd largest land in Turkey, we accepted this as a natural result.
This was, of course, a pleasing development. “The oil that will be located here has given us joy and happiness on behalf of the university, as it will contribute to the strength and power of our state, even to some extent.” Eronat stated that a total of 6 wells will be opened, 3 wells in two locations. Eronat stated that the number of wells may increase depending on the reserve and continued: “We made a ten-year agreement.
There will be an oil supply of approximately 150 barrels per day. This rises to 32 thousand 350 barrels per year and I hope it will rise to even higher levels. The aim is to unearth oil in October. This also made our university happy because we will contribute our share to our state with the oil that will be produced from here. We will lighten our burden on our state. As a result, the discovery of oil in our university was a ray of hope for us in this period when we needed oil very much.
“Our wish is that this reserve will be fertile, rich and useful.” – “We hope that the income will increase according to the oil reserves.” Stating that the contract with PETAR Doğal Gaz ve Petrol Araştırma AŞ stipulates that the university will be given a 3 percent share, Eronat said: “This share gives us confidence in reaching our goals, and we think that stability will be achieved. At the same time, the fact that our burden on our state will be eased gives us a special peace of mind.
There is an investment of approximately 20 million dollars. We expect this to lead to serious employment. It is thought that it will provide our university with an annual income of approximately 32 million lira at today’s values. “We hope that this income will increase according to the oil reserves.” Wishing that oil reserves will be abundant, Eronat said, “First of all, let our state win. After that, let’s add another brick to our education and wall with our share of contribution.
Having a stable contribution margin in the coming years of our university will also create an element of trust. It will enlarge the targets. “It will make the difficulties easier and ultimately enable us to take initiative more easily.” he said.
