MUĞLA (AA) – DURMUŞ GENÇ – More than 2 million local tourists were hosted in the popular tourism centers of Muğla in the Southern Aegean during the Eid al-Adha holiday. Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye districts were among the first choices of foreign visitors as well as Turks during the 9-day holiday. In Muğla, the province with the longest coastline in Turkey, business owners had a double holiday when local tourists filled the tourist facilities, beaches, nature parks, restaurants and cafes during the holiday.
In addition to the hotels in the region, tent and caravan camping areas are also full. Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık told the AA correspondent that there was congestion in the districts of Muğla during the holiday. Akbıyık stated that they took all kinds of security and traffic precautions for the visitors to spend their holidays in peace, and said, “During the Eid al-Adha holiday, the touristic districts of Muğla became the choice of local tourists, and our accommodation facilities were full.
More than 500 thousand vehicles entered Muğla and its districts for the holiday. We hosted more than 2 million local tourists in our city.” he said. Stating that luxury yacht traffic is also quite intense, Akbıyık noted that the bays host many visitors. Akbıyık stated that, in addition to sea, sand and sun holidays, visitors had a holiday to their heart’s content in the bays where blue and green embrace, and said, “In a 9-day period, approximately 300 thousand people entered Muğla through 10 border gates and 2 airports.
More than 100 thousand of these arrivals were foreign tourists.” he said. Akbıyık noted that 50 percent of the foreign guests are British, followed by Russian tourists, and that 90 percent of the total population in the city is domestic tourists. -“There was a 30 percent decrease in traffic accidents” Akbıyık emphasized that the police, gendarmerie and coast guard teams were on duty day and night during the holiday, and stated that thanks to the strict measures taken, there was no major problem in terms of public order and traffic.
Governor Akbıyık said, “There was a decrease of around 20 to 30 percent in traffic accidents and injuries compared to previous periods. Unfortunately, we had two fatal traffic accidents, which made us deeply sad. I wish God’s mercy to our citizens who lost their lives. However, in general, the holiday was completed in an atmosphere of peace and security.” Pointing out that Muğla ranks second in terms of forest presence in Turkey, Akbıyık said that the citizens largely complied with the warnings they made before the holiday.
Stating that Muğla is the most important center of not only sea-sand-sun tourism but also blue voyage in the world, with its sea cleanliness, ecological structure and unique bays, Akbıyık said that yacht and boat tourism, especially in Göcek, Marmaris and Bodrum, was at its peak during the holiday. Akbıyık pointed out that ruins and archaeological sites attract great attention within the scope of cultural tourism, and added that the city continues to be a center of attraction in sports tourism.
