HATAY (AA) – Products prepared by children and young convicts who received handicrafts, crafts and painting training in Hatay were presented to art lovers at the exhibition. Governor Mustafa Masatlı said at the opening of the exhibition “Colors of the Gray Wall” held at the courthouse that people will be peaceful and happy as long as they live in justice. Stating that prisons and detention centers are not just places where people are kept and their freedoms are restricted, Masatlı said: “We also make efforts to prepare our people for life again, to provide them with new skills, to allow them to account for themselves and think again.

Our country, especially with the judicial reforms in recent years, has carried out important works and projects, especially in the context of reintegrating our people into life after conviction. In this respect, while prisons and detention centers used to be known as places where people were imprisoned and released, they are now also perceived as places where people are rehabilitated and reintegrated into society.” Masatlı noted that the works in the exhibition reflect the inner world of the convicts and thanked the chief prosecutor’s office and prison officials, master instructors and convicts for their efforts.

Hatay Chief Public Prosecutor Harun Karahan also stated that penal institutions are places where convicts carry out their sentences for the safety of the society. Karahan stated that penal institutions are also places that allow convicts to live in a manner befitting human dignity and said, “In this respect, various business lines and social activities are carried out by our penal institutions in order to reintegrate our convict friends into society, which is the primary goal of our Ministry and penal execution laws.

We are pleased to gather here today to witness this concrete and beautiful moment together.” he said. At the exhibition, Chief Public Prosecutor Karahan gifted Governor Masatlı a painting with a portrait of Atatürk made by the convicts. The exhibition at Hatay Courthouse will remain open until June 6.
