YouTube Music has started testing new sorting options for playlists. With the new options seen in the Android application, users can sort the tracks in their playlists by song name, artist and album. The feature is currently being rolled out gradually and won’t appear at the same time for everyone who updates the app.
New sorting options are being tested for YouTube Music playlists
New sorting options for playlists have appeared in YouTube Music’s Android application. In addition to the top rated, manual sorting, newest first and oldest first options that were previously included in the application, song title, artist and album sorting has also begun to be tested.

The new options bring new controls that can be used directly from within the app for users who want to organize tracks in their playlists in alphabetical order.
New sorting options were seen in version 9.20.52 on the Android side of YouTube Music. But the change doesn’t seem to depend solely on app version. It is stated that the feature is enabled with a server-side flag. For this reason, while the new menu appears for some people using the same version, it may not be active yet for some users.
In the resulting screenshot, Title, Artist and Album options have been added to the existing options in the playlist sorting menu. The Title option sorts the tracks by song name, the Artist option by the artist name, and the Album option by the album name. Thus, users can switch between different alphabetical views without manually editing long playlists.
The feature was first spotted by Reddit user Stevenmc8602. According to the information provided by Android Authority, the user saw new sorting options in the playlist on YouTube Music. The change was later brought to the agenda by PiunikaWeb.
The lack of the option to sort playlists by song name, artist or album on YouTube Music has been one of the points that users have been expressing for a long time. Similar sorting tools have long been available on rival music platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. The new test on YouTube Music expands the sorting controls within the application, especially for users who want to keep large playlists organized.
