ZONGULDAK (AA) – GÖKHAN YILMAZ / HÜSEYİN EKİNCİ – Father Bekir, who has Balkan championships in the wushu kung fu branch, and his 10-year-old son Abdurrahman Kaya are keeping in shape together to add new medals. Bekir Kaya, 40, a national coach and national athlete living in Devrek district of Zonguldak, has won many Turkish championships in his career, as well as two European second places and two Balkan championships.
Kaya, who took his son to training and championships at every opportunity, fell in love with this sport and started to prepare for tournaments with him. As his coach, he played a role in fourth-grade student Abdurrahman’s winning two Turkish championships. Finally, at the 8th Open Balkan Wushu Kung Fu Championship Eurasia Cup held in Edirne last year, Kaya won the gold medal in the senior category and his son in the junior category.
Continuing their work without slowing down, father and son aim to come first in the 9th Open Balkan Wushu Kung Fu Championship Eurasia Cup, which will be held in Yalova between 19-23 August. – My son will take over the flag and continue Bekir Kaya told the AA reporter that he was in the European Championship as a national athlete in Croatia on the day his son was born, and therefore could not take part in his birth. Stating that he took his son to all his training sessions from an early age, Kaya noted that his son did not make the grade in the first tournaments he participated in, but continued to train steadily.
Kaya stated that Abdurrahman gained experience over time and worked harder and persevered. We had championships in Türkiye with my son and my other students. Father and son became champions at the Balkan Championship in Edirne. he said. Stating that it made him happy to get successful results with his son, Kaya said, “We see sports as a great tool in raising young people. It makes us proud and excited that they do sports with us.
We are also getting older, we will stop competing now. It makes me happy that my son continues it. he said. Kaya said that those who see them appreciate them because father and son do this sport, that he wants Abdurrahman to be a successful athlete in the future, that he is working in this direction and that he wants him to represent the national team in the best way throughout his career. Stating that they will compete in the Balkan Championship again this year, Kaya said: “It will probably be my last championship.” My son will now take over this flag and continue.

Expressing that it was a pride for him to do the same sport as his father and achieve success, Abdurrahman stated that he was happy that people congratulated him when he became the champion.
