Students who design underwater vehicles will compete in the world final in Canada

ADANA (AA) – ÖMER FANSA – Adana Science High School students will compete for first place in the MATE-ROV Underwater Systems Competition World Finals to be held in Canada in June with the underwater vehicle they designed, “Firtina”. Founded in 2019 by high school students and supported by Seyhan Youth Center, the “ALESTA” technology team develops underwater vehicles that perform specified tasks by acting autonomously or with remote control, with the support of artificial intelligence and camera.

The team, which has been competing in TEKNOFEST for 7 years with its projects, won awards in the fields of “Unmanned Underwater Systems”, “Most Original Software” and “Best Team Spirit”, and also returned with honors from many international competitions. Finally, the students developed an underwater vehicle with a 3-axis robotic arm with precision gripping ability and a 6-motor propulsion system. The vehicle, which can be operated autonomously or by remote control, can go down to a depth of 60 meters under water, classify objects and collect them via robotic arms.

The students who participated in the Maritime Advanced Technology Training-Remote Controlled Vehicle Competition (MATE-ROV) held in Egypt with the vehicle they named “Storm” won the “Best Communication System” award and were entitled to participate in the MATE-ROV Underwater Systems Competition World Finals to be held in Canada on 23-27 June. Young people, who continue their preparations for the competition in Adana Science High School laboratories and Çukurova Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool, aim to come first in the competition.

– “We are trying to take our opportunities and skills to an even higher level.” Team advisor, information technologies teacher Osman Onur Dilci, told the AA reporter that they designed robots that can perform tasks such as underwater research and search and rescue. Stating that they are trying to raise the opportunities and skills to the highest level, Dilci said, “We have come this far with diligent and devoted work.
