Apple added a new wallpaper feature to the iPhone’s personalization options with iOS 26. This feature, called “Spatial Scenes”, applies a 3D depth effect to photo wallpapers and makes the image appear more vivid on the screen when the iPhone is moved. The feature has been in the system since the first version of iOS 26. The Spatial Scenes feature in iOS 26 adds a sense of movement to wallpapers. The Spatial Scenes feature that comes with iOS 26 allows users to add a new 3D effect to photo wallpapers.

This feature is also mentioned in Apple’s official iOS 26 release notes as an innovation that adds a new three-dimensional effect to photo wallpapers and makes visuals more vivid when the iPhone is moved. The new effect is especially noticeable on Lock Screen and Home Screen wallpapers. When the user moves the iPhone left and right, a more distinct sense of depth is created between the main object in the photo and the background.

Thus, a fixed photo turns from a classic wallpaper appearance into a more dynamic visual experience. Spatial Scenes is not only an effect used during wallpaper selection. The same sense of 3D depth is available in the Photos app and Photos’ Home Screen widget in iOS 26. However, the most visible use of the feature occurs in photos directly selected as iPhone wallpapers. While the user creates a new wallpaper, iOS 26 shows the recommended wallpapers under the Spatial Scenes title.

When one of the images in this section is selected, the 3D effect is automatically applied. Thus, the user can directly create a wallpaper with effects without having to search for a compatible photo. The feature can also be used manually. To do this, you need to go to the Wallpaper section in the Settings application and tap on the Add New Wallpaper option. Then, select the Photos option at the top left and select the photo you want to use as wallpaper.

Spatial Scene is created when the geometric photo icon at the bottom right of the screen is touched. After the effect is prepared, the 3D view can be tested by moving the iPhone left and right. In the last step, the new wallpaper is saved when the “Add” button is pressed.
