A new independent team, led by the co-creator of the cult survival horror game Darkwood, has officially announced the Hoarder game project, which is preparing to shake the gaming world. This internal team, named Byzel, which means “complete mess and mess” in Polish slang, consists of experienced people who worked not only on Darkwood, but also on the phenomenon “Superhot” and the Polish internet legend “Poradnik Uśmiechu”.
On the visual design side, talented artists with a large following in the internet world ensure that the atmosphere of the game remains at the highest level. Much More than a Cleaning Simulation Hoarder appears at first glance as an immersive adventure and horror game that is difficult to define with a single genre. The game starts with an atmospheric “cleaning simulation” formula. The main task of the player is to declutter and organize the house belonging to a hoarding couple.
As the cleanup progresses, clues are gathered about the house’s former occupants and dark details about what happened to them come to light. It is entirely up to the player whether to follow this mystery that is slowly taking shape. If the player earns enough money by cleaning, he can buy a ticket for his dream vacation and end the game early. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Descent into the Depths Where Rules Are Breaking If the player is curious enough and continues to dig deep into the house, he discovers a huge underground staircase of supernatural proportions.
From this point on, Hoarder begins to stand in stark contrast to everything the player has experienced in the game up to that point. The established rules of the game are being broken; quest descriptions and pointers are distorted. While familiar cleaning mechanics suddenly disappear, the player finds himself in a completely different reality. At the bottom of the stairs is a mysterious facility where the main part of the game takes place.
Here the day-night cycle begins and this facility becomes the player’s new home. As the player explores new parts of the facility each day, they witness the location changing over time based on the player’s actions. LiDAR Technology and Deep Sea Exploration One of the most striking mechanics of the game is a submarine used to explore the deep sea floor. Players navigate the pitch-black waters by imaging them through a LiDAR scanner.
Strange objects found in the outside world can be brought back to base and used as scrap. With these scraps, new parts of the facility are opened, existing systems are upgraded or the story is moved forward. Offering a highly interactive world that blends genres, Hoarder regularly tries to infiltrate the player’s mind. If your curiosity drives you, this game offers you a unique opportunity to turn your curiosity into a weapon (or fall victim to it).
This project, which does not yet have a playable version but is the work of a true passion for the dark psychological horror genre, invites players to be disturbed while trying to take control.
