Ferrari introduced the one-of-a-kind ‘Ferrari 812 Competizione’ at a special event held at Casa Ferrari during Monterey Auto Week.
This one-of-a-kind Custom Made car was developed inspired by the ‘blank page’ concept, which refers to the way the Ferrari Style Center (Centro Stile Ferrari) begins its creative research for each new model. The car, to which the Special Design concept has been applied, is one of the 999 Ferrari 812 Competizione, a limited and extremely special series designed for enthusiasts and collectors of the world’s most exciting twelve-cylinder car. The car’s original inspiration is highlighted by a commemorative plaque in the interior.
The process of developing the craftsmanship techniques used to create the unique and creative patterns on the vehicle took place over a year of close collaboration between the Ferrari Style Center and the Special Design team, which carries out the most innovative personalization projects at Ferrari. The most challenging task in this process was to achieve the perfect balance between the process of realizing perfect technique and preserving creativity and artistic craftsmanship. Ferrari chief designer Flavio Manzoni guided the artistic craftsmanship with the uniquely detailed drawings that inspired the 812 Competizione.
The Special Design 812 Competizione will be auctioned at the Ferrari Gala to be held in New York on October 17. All income from the Gala, which will be attended by the community of Ferrari customers, will be donated to charities within the scope of education support projects on which the philanthropic activities carried out by the ‘Prancing Horse’ focus.
Modern Design, Carrying the Ferrari Tradition
The car was originally designed to resemble the iconic yellow cards on which Maranello designers transferred their initial ideas, insights and notes from their minds to paper. These yellow cards, on which detail after detail and idea after idea are added and constantly renewed, are important as papers on which new concepts, unique stylistic features and shapes are created that will become a part of Italian automotive design history. The three-layer, matte yellow car has an additional matte black sketch application that traces the chief designer’s most iconic elements.
The same concept was reflected in the interior. The new generation Alcantara® upholstery covering the cockpit of the 812 Competizione, made of 65 percent recycled polyester and presented as a world premiere at Ferrari Purosangue, draws attention with the fact that it is decorated with design drawings directly embroidered on it using a highly innovative technique. Since Ferrari usually uses leather for such special motifs, this developed solution stands out as truly unique. The elegant interior upholstery is completed by the black trilobal Superfabric® used on the carpet and rear wall of the passenger compartment.
Dedicated to a small group of collectors and enthusiasts of the noblest Ferrari tradition, the 812 Competizione aims for maximum performance without compromising anything. The driver who will use the 812 Competizione becomes one with the vehicle, which guarantees instant response to the controls and full control even in the most complex manoeuvres, on the road and on the track. With the contribution of the independent four-wheel steering system that provides agility and cornering precision and the most exciting 830 horsepower V12 on the world automotive scene, driving excitement is always at the highest level. The engine combines its impressive power with the sound that Maranello’s 12-cylinder enthusiasts know very well.
