“An Islamic Unity Convert: Abdülahad Davud” symposium was held in Hakkari

HAKKARİ (AA) – Hakkari University Seyyid Taha Islamic Sciences Application and Research Center organized the Unity of Islamist Conversion: Abdülahad Davud symposium. Academicians from different universities attended the symposium held in the Rectorate Conference Hall. Speaking at the opening of the symposium, Hakkari University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hayati Çavuş stated that universities not only research the present and the future, but also unearth the figures who left their mark on history and their world of ideas with scientific meticulousness, and said that the intellectual legacy of Abdülahad Davud will be discussed at the symposium.

Stating that David was an extraordinary person who devoted his life to defending the truths of the Islamic religion, Sergeant said: His intellectual legacy is not just about changing a religion. Before his conversion, he analyzed Christian theology and Eastern churches from an inside perspective with the articles he wrote in Western languages, and after his conversion, he used this knowledge for the defense of Islam and the unity of Muslims.

Abdülahad Davud is one of the rare names who can read the spirit of both the East and the West with the principle of ‘one person, two views’. Chairman of the Symposium Organizing Committee and Prof. from Sakarya University Faculty of Theology. Dr. Fuat Aydın also talked about Davud’s contributions to the intellectual life of the Ottoman Empire. Following the opening speeches, papers were presented at the symposium on the subjects of Urmia in the Second Half of the Century, Nestorian Patriarchate Center Koçanis, Ottoman Istanbul at the Beginning of the 20th Century, Missionary in Iran through the Eyes of Abdülahad Davud, and Missionary Activities in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th and 20th Centuries and Abdülahad Davud.
