ELAZIĞ (AA) – A cycling event was held in Elazığ on the occasion of “3 June World Bicycle Day”. The Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change organized an event within the scope of Environment Week activities with the theme “The World is Entrusted to Us” and the slogan “We Pedal for Clean Air in Elazığ”. Participants gathered at Cumhuriyet Square with their bicycles and pedaled to the campus of the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
Fatih Önalan, Provincial Director of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, told journalists that the event was organized to draw attention to the responsibility of leaving a more livable environment to future generations. Stating that they aim to develop environmentally friendly transportation habits by popularizing the use of bicycles, Önalan said: “Our main goal is to raise environmentally conscious generations.
Great breakthroughs can be made with tiny sparks. World Bicycle Day is one of them. We can raise awareness by popularizing the use of bicycles. We can reduce air pollution without harming the environment, and choose more sustainable methods in individual and public transportation.” We can reduce carbon emissions caused by exhaust gases. “We organized this awareness event to draw attention to the importance of cycling, especially over short distances.” Önalan thanked those who attended the event.
