The post-apocalyptic themed adventure, one of the darkest and most atmospheric series in the gaming world, was officially introduced as Metro 2039 with a special launch today, and its promotional trailer is actually a shocking response to the devastating reality of the Russia-Ukraine war. Shaped literally in the middle of war by Ukrainian developer 4A Games, this new episode is preparing to tell the darkest story in the history of the series.
This announcement, which comes seven years after Metro Exodus, is seen as the strongest evidence of not only a game, but also the struggle of a people and a studio to exist. A Development Process Shaped by War Developed at 4A Games’ offices in Kiev and Malta, Metro 2039 addresses the universe based on the novels of Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky from a brand new and tragic perspective. The project, which was also supported by Glukhovsky, who was exiled from his country for opposing the war, has a harsh realism that, in the words of creative director Pavel Ulmer, “makes similar productions such as Fallout feel like an amusement park ride.” The team openly admits that the plans for this game changed completely with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Now, before us is a structure that tells not only about war, but also about the destruction that war brings, the cost of silence and the horror of tyranny. You can also watch the video on YouTube. New Character and “Novoreich” Threat. The protagonist who appears in the announcement trailer is only named “The Stranger” and, unlike the tradition of the series, this time he is fictionalized as a fully voiced main character.
Searching for his missing daughter, this lonely recluse is forced to descend into the depths of the Metro, where he vows never to return. However, the Metro he left is no longer the same. All factions are gathered under a single banner called “Novoreich” under the leadership of Hunter, the legendary Spartan. Although this leader, nicknamed the Führer, promises people a new life on the surface, in reality he traps them in a dense network of propaganda and disinformation.
Technical Magnificence and Ukrainian Perspective The production, developed with 4A Games’ own special game engine, offers a visual feast in the short gameplay footage published. The claustrophobic tunnels, rusty masks and mutated monsters that are the signature of the series have been made much more frightening with the power of modern equipment. The developers emphasize that instead of romanticizing the post-apocalyptic, they depict the most tragic states of humanity.
The scenes of Nazi-like figures brainwashing children in the trailer signal how high the dose of social criticism of the game will be. Release Date and Platforms Metro 2039 will meet players on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC platforms “this winter”. Although it was announced at a Microsoft event, the approval of the PlayStation 5 version made a wide range of players happy. With this project, 4A Games not only offers a sequel; At the same time, it once again shows the whole world the honor of producing in the middle of war and Ukraine’s unshakable determination.
