While the World of Darkness universe, known for its dark and gothic atmosphere of the game world, made an action-packed comeback, the Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn project was officially introduced. Publisher Nacon and developer Cre-ture Studios announced this new action-Metroidvania genre, set in the freezing lands of Alaska, with the first trailer. The game, which is planned to meet players in 2027, promises to blend shape-shifting mechanics with a platform experience focused on exploration and combat.
Shapeshifting Revolution in the Metroidvania Genre For Creature Studios, which previously made a name for itself with the simulation-oriented skateboarding game “Session”, this project represents a radical change in terms of genre. Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn builds the classic Metroidvania structure on an engine where the player must make tactical transitions between three different forms. While progress in traditional Metroidvania games is achieved with new items or abilities, in this production, the main character Taylor’s three different forms (Homid, Lupus and Crinos) are used as basic tools to overcome environmental obstacles.
You can also watch the video on Youtube. While the Homid (human) form stands out in ranged combat and missions requiring precision; Lupus (wolf) form provides the advantage of speed, agility and stealth. Crinos, the massive battle form that is a fan favorite of the series, uses pure violence to shatter obstacles and open new paths. In the first released images, the player must switch from Crinos form to human form and use a ranged weapon to defeat a flying enemy in the middle of the fight.
It is emphasized that these transitions are not just a visual feast, but the basic combat cycle of the game. The Dark Atmosphere of Alaska and Ecological Revenge The biggest difference of the game compared to other Werewolf productions released in recent years is the Alaskan environment with atmospheric depth. This vast world, with themes of ecological corruption and revenge, is presented with a classic Metroidvania map design consisting of interconnected regions.
The “Den” system, where players recruit new members to their pack and form alliances, serves as a hub for equipment upgrades and werewolf “gifts.” This system promises a depth of role-playing that allows players to create their own playstyle with hundreds of different combinations. 2027 Goal and Platforms Crea-ture Studios aims to transfer the physics and movement sensitivity experience gained from the Session game to this fantastic adventure.
The biggest challenge for developers will be to make transitions between forms smooth enough to not disrupt the game flow. Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Rageborn; It will be released in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. The length of the development process gives the studio ample time to perfect combat mechanics and visual transitions.
