ANKARA (AA) – Fatih Dönmez, Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Artificial Intelligence Research Commission and AK Party Eskişehir Deputy, stated that artificial intelligence should be developed in line with national interests and social benefit should be protected. In his speech at the “AI Tomorrow Summit 2026” event organized by the Artificial Intelligence Policy Association (AIPA) in a hotel in Ankara, where Anadolu Agency is the Global Communication Partner, Dönmez said that artificial intelligence has reached capabilities such as advanced reasoning, multi-modal data processing and autonomous task management.

Emphasizing that artificial intelligence should be developed in line with national interests and social benefit should be protected, Dönmez said, “On the one hand, there is the opportunity for economic growth, increased productivity and scientific progress, while on the other hand, there are critical issues such as data security, algorithmic biases, disinformation, workforce transformation and ethical boundaries.” made his assessment.

Referring to the work carried out by the Commission in the field of artificial intelligence, Dönmez said, “As Turkey, we cannot accept being a country that only watches the developments in the face of these questions. Our goal is to be among the countries that produce technology, not consume it, and lead it, not follow it. As the Turkish Grand National Assembly, we listened to our non-governmental organizations, academics, public and private sector managers from the moment we felt that we needed a research in this field.

We had the opportunity to listen to more than 100 people and at the end of a year’s work, we prepared a comprehensive report and presented it to the Speaker of the Parliament. “In the report, we expressed our suggestions on many critical issues, from data infrastructure to human resources, from ethical principles to regulation systems.” he said. Dönmez noted that Turkey has a significant potential in the field of artificial intelligence with its young population and engineering capacity, and that the public, private sector, academia and civil society should act with common sense in this process.

– “Turkey should make a breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence” Zafer Küçükşabanoğlu, President of the Artificial Intelligence Policies Association (AIPA), said that for the first time, a technology transforms not only sectors, but also ways of thinking, production models, understanding of competition and daily life habits at the same time. Küçükşabanoğlu stated that in the digital world, it is no longer determining who owns land, but whose data, technology and artificial intelligence capacity it is, and explained that in today’s world, artificial intelligence has turned into powerful actors that can affect the economies, social behaviors and state policies of global technology companies.

Küçükşabanoğlu pointed out that Turkey needs to make a huge breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence in this period and said: “Artificial intelligence is no longer just a technological field of competition, but also a strategic field that is at the center of economic independence, national security, diplomatic power and global competitive capacity. Therefore, artificial intelligence is no longer just a technical issue, but a very important technology that deeply affects every issue.

In our country, artificial intelligence has now become a strategic agenda topic that is embraced not only by the technology circles but also by our state at the highest level.” As the Artificial Intelligence Policy Association, our motto is to make Turkey successful in the artificial intelligence ecosystem by combining all our strength in artificial intelligence under the leadership of our state.” AIPA Advisory Board Chairman Erdem Erkul drew attention to three main headings in artificial intelligence and digital transformation processes: “preparation”, “redesign” and “human-oriented”.

Stating that Turkey’s strong civilization heritage and state vision, safe supply chains in semiconductors and its involvement in new artificial intelligence-based coalitions are of strategic importance, Erkul noted that a proactive approach should be adopted in the 21st century world full of uncertainties.
