ISTANBUL (AA) – The “Suleika-Lied Evening” concert was held at the “17th International Istanbul Opera and Ballet Festival” organized by the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet (DOB). According to the statement made by DOB, the concert held at Kadıköy Municipality Süreyya Opera offered an intercultural art experience to the audience by bringing literature and music together on the same stage. The program was inspired by German poet and writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s work “West-East Divan” published in 1819.
At the concert, the story of Suleika, one of the striking characters of the work, was reinterpreted through the language of music. While soprano Carolina Ullrich, one of the important names of the international opera scene, was appreciated for her performance in the concert, the artist was accompanied by Ahmet Sait Karabulut on the piano. Works by Romantic Period composers such as Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann and Hugo Wolf were also performed at the concert.
