BAE Systems announced the successful testing of the APKWS laser guidance kit from the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet.

In the test, rockets equipped with the APKWS laser guidance kit, which transforms unguided rockets into precision guided munitions, were successfully fired from the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet. It accurately hit a ground target at the UK military test site.

The company said in a statement that this demonstration is part of ongoing efforts to integrate lower-cost interception options against unmanned aerial vehicles where conventional air-to-air missiles may be less cost-effective.

The APKWS system, which is currently in service on many platforms including fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, is expected to evaluate its effectiveness against air targets in future tests.
