Google has made a significant change to the usage limits for Gemini. Instead of a fixed number of daily requests in its artificial intelligence service, the company is switching to a new limit structure that takes into account the processing power consumption of the user’s transaction. With this change, not only how many commands are given in Gemini, but also the complexity of the command, the features used, the length of the chat and the scope of the uploaded files are taken into account.

A new era in Gemini: Limits are now calculated according to the intensity of use. Google’s new approach does not evaluate usage rights in Gemini only on the number of messages. In the system, how complex the command given is, whether additional features such as visual or video production are used, whether slower working tools such as Deep Research are used, and how long the conversation lasts are effective in calculating the limit.

The user who wants a short and simple text response and the user who works on long files, has detailed analysis, or uses visual and video production are no longer considered within the same limit logic. Thus, usage rights in Gemini are shaped by the load those commands impose on the system rather than the number of commands given. Google’s support page also states that the limits in Gemini applications are not fixed.

How many commands a user can give before reaching the limit depends on the length and complexity of the commands, the size and number of files uploaded, as well as the length of the conversation. Usage capacity is renewed regularly and users are notified via the Gemini application when they approach the limit. In the new system, paid plans offer higher usage rights compared to free users. The Google AI Plus plan has a usage limit that is two times higher than the standard limit, the Google AI Pro plan is four times higher, and the Google AI Ultra plan is 20 times higher.

The new limit scheme also directly affects some advanced features in Gemini. Features that require more processing power, such as image production, video production, Deep Research, Pro models, extended thinking modes and Deep Think, consume more capacity than standard text-based use. For this reason, the number of responses users can receive within the same period of time may vary depending on the type of transaction they perform.

Google’s current support documents also include rights allocated according to different plans for the Gemini application. While limited access is provided for Gemini 3.1 Pro in basic use, access is given to 30 commands per day in the Google AI Plus plan, 100 commands per day in the Google AI Pro plan, and 500 commands per day in the Google AI Ultra plan. On the Thinking model side, daily limits increase depending on the plan level.

The right to use up to 90 commands per day is listed in Google AI Plus, 300 commands per day in Google AI Pro, and 1500 commands per day in Google AI Ultra. There is also a significant difference between the plans on the context window side. While the basic plan offers a 32 thousand token context size, this value increases to 128 thousand in the Google AI Plus plan. Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans have a 1 million token context window.

There is also a plan-based distinction in Gemini’s feature limits. The basic plan for Deep Research includes 5 reports per month, Google AI Plus has a limit of 12 reports per day, Google AI Pro has a limit of 20 reports per day, and Google AI Ultra has a limit of 120 reports per day. On the visual production and editing side, 20 images per day are given in the basic plan, 50 images per day in Google AI Plus, 100 images per day in Google AI Pro, and 1000 images per day in Google AI Ultra.

On the video production side, there is no access in the basic plan. Google AI Plus users can produce 2 videos per day with Veo 3.1 Lite, Google AI Pro users can produce 3 videos per day with Veo 3.1 Lite, and Google AI Ultra users can produce 5 videos per day with Veo 3.1 Pro. Google also states that the limits for features that are in high demand, such as image production, may change frequently and will be reset daily.

This regulation is one of the new examples of the transition from a fixed subscription model to more flexible limits shaped by usage in artificial intelligence services. Similarly, GitHub Copilot has moved to a structure based on artificial intelligence credits instead of fixed request units. The use of large language models in heavier tasks such as writing code, conducting research, reviewing files, producing images, and executing agent-based operations makes it difficult for service providers to measure limits by the number of messages alone.

The change Google made for Gemini may also cause users to have different experiences on the same subscription plan. While users working with simple and short commands may reach the limits later, users working with long files, doing multi-stage research, or using productive media tools may consume capacity faster. Gemini gives an in-app alert when the user approaches the limit and offers the option to wait until the limit is reset or upgrade to a higher Google AI plan.
