Google is starting its new era on the laptop side with Googlebook. Coming 15 years after the announcement of the Chromebook, the new category combines Android, ChromeOS, Gemini Intelligence and Android phone integration under the same roof. The first Googlebook models will be released in autumn 2026. Googlebook comes with Gemini Intelligence and Android integration. Googlebook was introduced as a new product category in which Google reconsiders the laptop experience in an artificial intelligence-centered way.
In this new structure, the company brings together Android’s Google Play application ecosystem and ChromeOS’s web experience. According to Google’s official statement, Googlebook is positioned as a new laptop class with Gemini at the center, working smoothly with Android phones and coming with premium hardware. The most important aspect of the new devices is Gemini Intelligence. Googlebook models come as the first laptops redesigned for Gemini Intelligence.
This structure makes the classic laptop experience supported by artificial intelligence not only through application and window management, but also at many points from the cursor to file access. One of the innovations highlighted by Google was Magic Pointer. This feature, developed with the Google DeepMind team, turns the cursor into a Gemini-supported interaction tool. When the user shakes the cursor, Gemini comes into play and offers contextual suggestions based on the content pointed on the screen.
Converting the date in an e-mail to a meeting or selecting two images and visualizing them together are among the examples given by Google. Another feature that came with Googlebook was Create My Widget. With this feature, users can create custom widgets by giving commands in natural language. Gemini can perform internet searches, connect to Google applications such as Gmail and Calendar, and create a personal desktop panel according to the user’s needs.
In Google’s example, travel information, hotel reservations, restaurant plans and the countdown are all collected in the same desktop area. Googlebook’s integration with Android phones is also a main part of the product. Thanks to the Cast My Apps feature, users can open the applications on their phones on the laptop screen. On the Googlebook page, it is stated that there is no need to install the application on the laptop for this feature.
However, an Android 17 or higher phone is required for Cast My Apps and Quick Access. The Quick Access feature makes phone files accessible through the laptop’s file manager. Users can view, search and use files on their phones on Googlebook. This structure eliminates file transfer between the phone and the laptop from being a separate process. Googlebook models are prepared with manufacturing partners such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Google announced that the devices will be produced with premium workmanship and materials and will come in different size and form options. The distinctive design element of the new laptops will be Glowbar. This illuminated strip is positioned as both a functional and visual part of the Googlebook design. On the operating system side of Googlebook, the official name has not been clarified yet. Although the name Aluminum OS is mentioned in some reports, Google stated that this is the code name, not the official brand name.
The company will share more information about the operating system brand later in the year. The support process for existing Chromebook users continues. Google announced that Chromebooks will continue to receive updates throughout their current support commitments and that some Chromebook models will be eligible to switch to the new experience. It was also shared that new Chromebook models will be released after Googlebook.
