Huawei has transformed automobile lighting into a full-color projection system in the new generation of its XPixel smart headlight technology. The system can project movies, games, live sports broadcasts, navigation guidance and driving support signs onto the surface in front of the vehicle. Huawei has been using this technology in monochrome form for about three years, and the system has previously been featured in models such as the Stelato S9. In the new version, full color projection support is added. Thus, the headlights not only show road lines, guidance and warning signs while driving; It can also project video content, game graphics and welcome animations when the vehicle stops.
In Huawei’s promotion, it was stated that XPixel can display different content such as live football match, navigation arrow and turn guidance in addition to movies and video clips. The system is defined as a “three-in-one” structure on the automotive optics side. This combines illumination, projection and color image output in one module. High-sensitivity ADB, that is, adaptive driving headlight support, also allows the system to mask other road users and manage light distribution in a more controlled manner.
XPixel is not a system that focuses only on the entertainment side. Huawei states that the headlights can intelligently change the color temperature in conditions such as rain or fog. In this way, light transmittance and vision support can be adjusted according to the weather condition. The system also supports lighting carpet effects that follow the curve structure of the road and driving support lights that enable silent communication with other drivers or pedestrians.
It has been announced that the full color XPixel system will be used for the first time in a new version of the Huawei-supported Aito M9 SUV. Huawei did not share an independent price for the end user for the XPixel. The system is not an accessory sold directly to the consumer, but a technology package offered to automobile manufacturers. Smart headlight technologies have become more visible in automobiles in recent years.
Mercedes’ Digital Light system and Maybach’s million pixel supported headlight solutions were previously used for driving support graphics. Huawei’s new XPixel version expands this line with full-color projection, entertainment and road guidance functions.
