Motorola still hasn’t solved the update issue!

While Motorola's new Razr 2026 family attracted attention with its price and hardware on the foldable phone side, it reopened the same debate on the software support side.

While Motorola’s new Razr 2026 family attracted attention with its price and hardware on the foldable phone side, it reopened the same debate on the software support side. Razr, Razr Plus and Razr Ultra models come with Android 16, but the three-year support line for the main Android version update has not changed. Update support has not changed in the Motorola Razr 2026 series. Motorola has been following a similar software policy in the Razr series for the last few years.

Since the Razr 2023 series, there have been three major Android version updates and four years of security updates for the devices. The same picture continued in the Razr 2024 family, did not change in the 2025 models, and is maintained in the 2026 Razr series. This situation becomes more visible, especially when the price level of foldable phones is considered. The new family includes the standard Motorola Razr 2026, Razr Plus 2026 and Razr Ultra 2026.

All three models come out of the box with Android 16, but on the long-term Android version support side, the three main version limit continues. There is also an increase on the price side. The standard Razr 2026 model comes at a price of $799 in the USA. The announced price for Razr Plus 2026 is $ 1,099, and for Razr Ultra 2026 it is $ 1,499. Compared to the previous generation, there is a $100 increase in the standard Razr and Razr Plus models and a $200 increase in the Razr Ultra model.

Despite this, Android update support remained at the previous level. There are some innovations on the hardware side. The Razr 2026 family features updates to low-light performance on the camera side, a titanium-supported hinge in some models, new Moto AI features and a 5,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery in the Razr Ultra. Large external screens, high refresh rate AMOLED panels and artificial intelligence supported photography features in the Razr Plus and Razr Ultra models are among the main innovations of the series.

The main reason for the debate is that Motorola has shown that it can offer longer update support in the same period. The company confirmed seven years of Android update support for the Motorola Signature phone during CES. The Razr Fold model also has the same seven-year update commitment. On the other hand, the limited policy with three major Android versions continues in the Razr 2026, Razr Plus 2026 and Razr Ultra 2026 models.

This table shows that Motorola does not extend software support to all its high-end phones in the same way. Although the Razr 2026 family is a series that starts at $799 and goes up to $1,499, it does not receive the same level of support as other models for which the company promises seven years of updates. This brings into question the competitiveness of the Razr series not only in terms of hardware and design, but also in terms of software life.
