Samsung is adding third-party call recording integration to the Phone app with One UI 9. With the new system, calls made via WhatsApp and Google Meet will be listed in the same call history as standard cellular calls on supported Galaxy phones. One UI 9 expands the Samsung Phone application. In Samsung’s Android 17-based One UI 9 version, the Phone application gets a new call recording system. With this innovation, Galaxy users will be able to see not only regular calls made through the operator, but also audio and video calls from supported third-party applications in the call history in the Samsung Phone application.

The new integration currently works with Google Meet and WhatsApp. Calls made or missed through these apps are shown with separate app information on the recent calls screen in Samsung’s built-in Phone app. Thus, users do not have to open each application separately to check the call history. The feature is based on the new third-party VoIP call recording support offered by Google on Android. With Jetpack Telecom 1.1.0, Google has paved the way for third-party search applications to integrate more natively into the system search history.

This structure allows system search applications such as Phone by Google to display calls from supported VoIP services directly in their call history. One UI 9 brings this infrastructure to the Samsung Phone application. Samsung’s own calling application can add WhatsApp and Google Meet calls to the normal call log screen. Call records are located in the same area as cellular calls, but information about which application they were made through is also shown.

The new feature is turned on by default. If users do not want calls from WhatsApp, Google Meet or other supported applications to appear in the history in the Samsung Phone application, they can turn off this integration. The setting is managed from the Other call settings and Other call applications section after entering the Settings section from the three-dot menu in the Phone application. Supported third-party call applications are listed separately in this menu.

Users can turn call recording integration on or off for each application. Thus, it is possible to keep WhatsApp calls in the system call history and hide Google Meet calls or turn off all third-party application recordings. The infrastructure offered by Google also includes an option called Call Log Exclusion for developers. This option allows third-party calling apps to not add certain conversations to the system call history.

Google leaves this structure to developers for privacy, temporary communication or application-specific behavior. The integration in One UI 9 appears to work with Google Meet and WhatsApp at the first stage. The same support on the Telegram side is not currently active. As Android 17 spreads to more devices and application developers use the new system, different VoIP services are expected to be added to the call history in the Samsung Phone application.

Samsung started the One UI 9 beta process with the Galaxy S26 series. For this reason, the new call recording integration is currently seen on devices using the beta version. With the distribution of the stable One UI 9 version, the feature will reach a wider user base on Galaxy models that receive the update.
