Sony, one of the leading names in the game console market, has made a decision that closely concerns millions of players around the world and announced that PlayStation Plus prices will be increased for new subscribers, citing current market conditions. In the official statement made by the company, it was stated that subscription fees will be updated upwards, valid in certain regions. This move had a wide impact in the gaming world, especially at a time when the costs of digital game services were increasing.
Although the company states that it will protect the majority of existing subscribers, there are exceptions for some countries. New Price Tariff and Regional Changes According to Sony’s announcement on social media platform X, the new price policy will be valid as of May 20. The company cited “ongoing market conditions” as the main reason behind this price increase. In the statement, it was stated that the 1-month subscription fee for new customers will start from 10.99 US Dollars, 9.99 Euros and 7.99 British Pounds.
The starting prices of the 3-month subscription package are 27.99 US Dollars, 27.99 Euros and 21.99 British Pounds. The statement “prices will start from…” in the statement shows that the increase covers the PlayStation Plus Essential package, which is the most basic subscription tier. Looking at the UK example, it seems that the basic package fee, which is currently £ 6.99 per month, will increase by one pound to £ 7.99.
The three-month package will increase from £ 19.99 to £ 21.99. No clear information has yet been shared about whether the price increase will affect the Extra and Premium packages, which are the higher paid tiers. What Will Happen to Existing Subscribers? Sony announced that the increase will only affect users who will start a new subscription, while existing members will be exempt from this price increase. However, for this rule to remain valid, existing subscribers must not make any changes to their membership plans or their subscription periods must not be interrupted.
If an existing user cancels his subscription and wants to restart it later, he will have to join the system at the new price tariff. On the other hand, there are two very critical exceptions to this assurance that existing subscribers will be protected. Although Sony has decided to protect existing users globally, it stated that existing subscribers in Türkiye and India will be excluded from this exemption. This means that PlayStation Plus users in Türkiye and India will face new increased prices even if their subscriptions continue uninterrupted.
