Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş announced that the social media regulation, which will be prepared to protect children from the dangers of the digital world, will be implemented within 6 months. Answering the questions of journalists after the cabinet meeting, Göktaş stated that studies on social media regulations are being carried out in many countries of the world and that they especially examined the reports prepared by Austria.
Göktaş stated that after the necessary evaluations, they completed the deficiencies and developed a model specific to Turkey. IT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED WITHIN 6 MONTHS Minister Göktaş used the following statements in his statement: “We have formed a working group within our Ministry in order to determine the basic principles for the implementation of the regulation on social media use. We carry out the process in full coordination with relevant institutions and organizations.
We continue our work together with public institutions and other stakeholders. “Within the scope of the working group we have formed, we will determine the principles regarding the use of social media by children under the age of 15 in a short time and begin to implement the relevant regulation within 6 months.” Stating that the new social media regulation will not be limited to legal changes only, Göktaş said that the technical infrastructure and implementation mechanisms have also been comprehensively created.
IT WILL BE VERIFIED FROM E-GOVERNMENT Stating that various responsibilities will be brought to social network providers with the law, Göktaş stated that the age verification system will be implemented through e-Government and different verification methods. It was stated that the system in question will be implemented under the leadership of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority and the Cyber Security Presidency.
