Tesla is changing its Autopilot package in Europe

The Autopilot era has been reshaped in Europe with the change visible on Tesla's new order screen in the Netherlands.

The Autopilot era has been reshaped in Europe with the change visible on Tesla’s new order screen in the Netherlands. In the Model Y configuration, cruise control sensitive to traffic conditions is listed as standard instead of the classic Tesla Autopilot, while the FSD (Supervised) package is offered with a monthly subscription of 99 euros. Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) system includes advanced driving support features that require active driver supervision, according to the company’s official statement.

The standard Autopilot period at Tesla is changing in Europe. On Tesla’s configuration screen in the Netherlands, the estimated delivery date for the Model Y rear-wheel drive version appears as August – September 2026. The list price of the vehicle on the screen is 39,303 euros, and the purchase price is 40,990 euros with additional fees. Pearl White color, 18-inch wheels, all-black interior and 5-seat configuration are included as standard equipment.

In this section, “Verkehrsabhängiger Tempomat”, that is, cruise control sensitive to traffic conditions, is highlighted among the included features. The real change occurs in the driving support package. In the new layout, adaptive cruise control remains standard. Safety adjustments against lane keeping and lane departure continue to be available in the vehicle. However, one of the most well-known functions of the classic Tesla Autopilot, Autosteer, that is, the vehicle’s self-steering support within the lane, does not appear in the basic package.

This table shows that the standard package no longer offers the previous Autopilot experience in new orders. The combination of adaptive cruise control and in-lane steering, which Tesla has been offering under the name “Autopilot” for years, differs with the new order in Europe. In new vehicles, the basic level remains only on the cruise control side. The FSD (Supervised) subscription stands out for active steering within the lane and more advanced driving support.

On the order screen that appears in the Netherlands, the FSD (Supervised) subscription is listed as 99 euros/month. The explanation on the screen states that pricing will start when the software is installed on the vehicle and the user will be notified when the update is available. This shows that FSD is positioned as a package offered through software access rather than a physical hardware change. The Netherlands has become one of the critical markets for Tesla’s FSD process in Europe.

According to information provided by Reuters, the Dutch vehicle authority RDW notified the European Commission about the EU-wide approval process for Tesla’s FSD software. While the system becomes available in the Netherlands, the process across Europe continues with evaluations on the regulation side. The date of May 21 stands out in the calendar shared on the German side. Accordingly, users who order until this date continue to receive the existing Autopilot package.

For users who place new orders after this date, only adaptive cruise control is included in the basic package. The classic Autopilot experience, that is, active steering support within the lane, is offered via FSD subscription in new vehicles. There is a different picture for existing Tesla owners and Autopilot-equipped vehicles in the second-hand market. According to the shared information, vehicles that currently have Autopilot feature do not lose this function.

Whichever package is active in the vehicle, that package is protected. For this reason, the change concerns newly ordered Tesla models rather than existing vehicles. Tesla had previously narrowed down the basic Autopilot package in the USA and Canada, leaving the cruise control sensitive to traffic conditions as standard in new vehicles, while connecting functions such as Autosteer to the FSD subscription. The new outlook in Europe shows that the same approach has been carried to the region via the Netherlands.
