The most striking innovation announced by Google came on the Quick Share side. The file sharing system, which has been used for a long time on Android phones, is now compatible with AirDrop on supported devices. This support first started on Pixel devices. It will also expand to manufacturers such as Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi and HONOR within the year. With this innovation, Android users will be able to send files more easily to iOS devices via supported phones.

According to Google’s statement, users who do not have a compatible device will also be able to create a QR code via Quick Share. With this QR code, files will be shared instantly from Android phones to iOS devices via the cloud. The feature is being rolled out to all Android phones starting today and will be available to all users within the next month. The usage area of Quick Share will not be limited to the system interface only.

Google will also bring Quick Share into some popular applications, including WhatsApp. In this way, users will be able to start file sharing directly from within the application. The first devices announced for AirDrop compatible Quick Share support include Samsung Galaxy S26 series, Google Pixel 10 series, Pixel 9 series, Pixel 8A, OPPO Find X9 series, OPPO Find N6 and Vivo X300 Ultra. Among the models that will soon receive support are the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z TriFold, OPPO Find X8 series, OnePlus 15, HONOR Magic V6 and HONOR Magic8 Pro.

The transition to Android has also been renewed. Google, together with Apple, overhauled the data transfer process from iOS to Android. With the new system, users’ passwords, photos, messages, favorite applications, contacts and home screen layout can be transferred wirelessly from iPhone to the new Android device. eSIM transfer is also included in this transition process. This renewed transition system will be available first on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices within the year.

Thus, users who switch from iPhone to Android will be able to transfer more data wirelessly when setting up their new device. In Google’s statement, it stands out that the home screen layout can also be transferred. This detail reduces the need for users to recreate the application layout when they switch to a new phone. On the messaging side, end-to-end encryption support between Android and iOS comes for RCS. Google announced that 2.5 billion RCS messages are sent every day, based on the last 28-day average.

With the new security step, the level of privacy in cross-platform messaging is increased. These updates are an important package that enables Android to work more compatible with iOS devices. Quick Share’s compatibility with AirDrop, the option to send files to iOS with a QR code, wireless migration from iPhone to Android and RCS encryption support compensate for some of the biggest shortcomings of the Android ecosystem on the cross-device side.
