The drunk driver who caused the death of a university student in Bartın appeared before the judge

BARTIN (AA) – The trial of the drunk driver who crashed his car in Bartın, causing the death of a university student and injuring 2 people, has started. The detained defendant F.T., the family and relatives of university student Edanur Tatlıoğlu, who died in the accident, and the party lawyers attended the hearing at Bartın 1st High Criminal Court. F.T., who started his defense by wishing God’s mercy to Tatlıoğlu and condolences to his family, said that he stopped drinking alcohol around 04.00 on the day of the incident, slept for a while and set out to go to Zonguldak conscious, thinking that he was not under the influence of alcohol.

Claiming that he was driving at a speed of 80-90 kilometers per hour in the Çatmaca location where the accident occurred, and that due to the rainy weather, the vehicle started to slide out of control at the bend, hitting the car that was turning right in front of it and skidding, F.T continued as follows: “The vehicle was swung towards where Edanur was, but I did not see that I hit him because of the vehicle in front of me.

Immediately after the accident, I got out of the vehicle and went to check the condition of the injured in the other vehicle. At that time, I noticed that I had hit Edanur.” I understood what people said and I couldn’t get over the impact of the incident. I am the child of a martyr, I can imagine the pain. I didn’t want it to be like this. “I couldn’t sleep at night, so I started using psychological medications.” Father Turan Tatlıoğlu also said that he had a complaint against the defendant.

Mother Melahat Tatlıoğlu said, “I was hurt, don’t let others get hurt.” he said and shed tears. The complainant’s lawyer stated that the driver’s speed was 117 kilometers per hour according to the City Security Management System records, and the blood test determined that the driver was 1.45 promil alcoholic. The defendant’s lawyer argued that his client was innocent and requested that he be tried without arrest. The court decided to continue the detention of the defendant and postponed the hearing to complete the deficiencies in the file.

– The incident happened when F.T. went from Bartın to Zonguldak. The car with plate number 06 RLK 06, driven by (30), went out of control and turned onto the secondary road in front of F.R.U. on October 23, 2025. He hit the car with license plate 34 BST 780, and then university student Edanur Tatlıoğlu (23), who was walking to the stop. In the accident in which Tatlıoğlu died at the scene, 2 people were injured. The driver of the car, F.T., who was determined to be drunk, was arrested.

In the indictment prepared by the public prosecutor’s office, it is requested that the defendant be sentenced to imprisonment from 2 to 12 years for the crime of “consciously negligent killing and wounding”.
