The side menu design in YouTube’s television application is being renewed. The change seen in the TV interface, including Google TV, brings forward access to the subscriptions and library section. The new layout has started to appear in some users, and it appears that the change has been distributed server-side. Subscriptions and library are becoming more visible in the YouTube TV application. The side menu layout, which has been used for a long time in YouTube’s TV application, is changing.
In the current interface, the side menu runs from top to bottom with Search, Home, Music, Movies & TV, Podcasts, Subscriptions, Library, and More. The settings button was located at the bottom of the menu. Although this structure was functional, users had to click more to reach frequently used sections, especially Subscriptions and Library. In the new design, Search and Home Page options remain at the top. A separate section is added right below these.
In this section, Subscriptions and Library shortcuts are more visible. There are also two direct channel shortcuts in the same area. It is not yet clear whether these channels are the last watched channels, the last subscribed channels, or the channels determined by the algorithm. Channel shortcuts in the new side menu remain on the screen even when the menu is collapsed. This detail provides faster access, especially when navigating with the television remote control.
Since the navigation experience in YouTube’s TV application is slower than on mobile and desktop, such shortcuts directly affect the use of the interface. Under the Subscriptions and Library section, News, Live, Podcasts, Music, Games and Sports shortcuts appear. However, this part may vary depending on the television or platform used. The settings button remains at the bottom of the menu in the new design. The change is not currently visible for all users.
The new interface was spotted on a Google TV device. Additionally, a Reddit user saw a similar innovation on Samsung TV. This table shows that the update is an interface test or gradual distribution opened by YouTube on the server side, rather than a classic version change coming through the application store. YouTube’s TV application has a wide user base, especially on smart televisions, Google TV devices, Android TV boxes and other large screen platforms.
Therefore, even small changes made in the side menu make a difference in daily use. The subscriptions section allows users to access the channels they follow. The library is the main hub for past views, playlists and saved content.
