Xiaomi's high-performance electric SUV model YU7 GT was seen on the roads in China without camouflage.

Xiaomi’s high-performance electric SUV model YU7 GT was seen on the roads in China without camouflage. The vehicle, seen in burgundy color called Cherry Red, is positioned as one of the brand’s most powerful SUV options with 990 horsepower, 300 km/h top speed, 101.7 kWh battery and 705 kilometers CLTC range value. The official launch of the model will be held at the end of May. Xiaomi YU7 GT carries the performance line of SU7 Ultra to the SUV class.

Xiaomi is expanding its product range on the automobile side with the YU7 GT. The new model, displayed uncamouflaged in China, maintains the long-hooded body structure of the standard YU7, but differs with more aggressive and sporty details. YU7 GT is positioned as a high-performance SUV in Xiaomi’s product range and is evaluated by the brand as a “sports car-level SUV for travel”. The front section of the vehicle features a more aggressively designed bumper, wide splitter and widened front fenders that provide a more muscular appearance.

Details focusing on aerodynamics throughout the body attract attention. The YU7 GT has 10 different air ducts, a large rear diffuser and a rear spoiler with a protrusion in the center. It is considered that this protruding section contains new sensors for advanced driving support systems. YU7 GT comes with 21 inch wheels. The displayed vehicle has red brake calipers. Carbon ceramic discs are expected to be used in the braking system.

The vehicle also features Brembo branded components, air suspension and rear axle torque vectoring system. These equipment show that the YU7 GT is not only a powerful electric SUV, but also a performance model focused on high speed and handling. The length of the Xiaomi YU7 GT is announced as 5,015 mm, its width is 2,007 mm, and its height is 1,597 mm. Wheelbase 3,000 mm. These measurements reveal that the model is in the middle-upper class SUV segment.

YU7 GT combines its claim on performance with its wide body structure and long wheelbase. Xiaomi officials specifically chose to use the name GT instead of Ultra on the model. GT means Grand Tourer, and this naming emphasizes the balance between high performance and long-distance comfort. While SU7 Ultra is positioned as a track-focused electric car, YU7 GT is distinguished as a more luxurious SUV that offers high speed with long-distance use.

A dual-motor system is used on the power side. The front axle has a 288 kW, or 386 horsepower, electric motor provided by Inovance. The rear axle is powered by a 450 kW, or 604 horsepower, engine developed by Xiaomi. The total power of the system reaches 738 kW, that is, 990 horsepower. The maximum speed of the YU7 GT was announced as 300 km/h. On the battery side, there is a package with a capacity of 101.7 kWh. This battery provides a range of 705 kilometers according to the CLTC norm.

Offering high performance, large battery capacity and long range in the same vehicle places the YU7 GT at an important point in Xiaomi’s electric car strategy. According to the regulatory files, different customization options are also being prepared for the YU7 GT. Buyers will be able to choose from different headlight trims, side mirror options, rear spoiler designs, hood accessories, rim styles and brake caliper colors.

The Cherry Red colored vehicles displayed at the factory in China are expected to be sent to Xiaomi Auto showrooms in a short time. Xiaomi YU7 went on sale in June last year and reached 200 thousand orders in a short time. Sales of the model peaked in December with 39,089 units. After clearing the pre-order backlog, sales of 13,558 units were recorded in March. This figure was one of the lowest sales levels for YU7, except for June and July last year, when production capacity was not fully operational.

The introduction of the YU7 GT at the end of May will reveal the new link on the performance side of the series.
