KONYA (AA) – International Center for Strategic Research (USAR) signed joint working protocols with universities in Malaysia and Indonesia in order to strengthen academic collaborations in the Islamic world. USAR President Abdullah Akmaz and General Coordinator Muhammed Murat Öymez and his accompanying delegation paid a working visit to Malaysia and Indonesia. The delegation came together with the officials of the International Islamic University (IIUM) in Malaysia and the Sultan Agung Islamic University (UNISSULA) in Indonesia and signed an academic cooperation protocol with higher education institutions in the two countries.
With the protocol, it was decided to implement academician and student exchange programs, language education, joint publications, international conferences, symposium organizations and joint research projects. Akmaz emphasized to the AA correspondent that these visits are of strategic importance in terms of establishing a strong basis of communication and solidarity between universities in the Islamic world. Stating that they expanded the process they started with Bahria University in Pakistan, Akmaz said: “Malaysia and Indonesia are the countries with which we established academic cooperation within the scope of the D-8 organization.
We aim to strengthen partnerships in the field of higher education among D-8 countries. In the future, we aim to develop similar collaborations with universities in other member countries, especially Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh and Nigeria. “In addition to academic studies, we see these initiatives as extremely valuable in terms of developing a culture of joint production among the scientists of the Islamic world and strengthening the awareness of the ummah.” Akmaz added that priority was given to supporting young researchers and improving cultural interaction.
