ERZURUM (AA) – TALHA KOCA – Head of Legal Affairs of Consumer Rights Association, Lawyer Mehmet Raşit Çavuşoğlu, warned citizens against phone fraud and said, “Fraud and theft transactions are now done by influencing and deceiving people in the digital environment and taking over their bank accounts, instead of coming across them on the street.” he said. Çavuşoğlu reminded the AA correspondent that 14 of the 23 suspects who were detained in the qualified fraud operation carried out in 13 provinces, centered in Erzurum, on May 21, were arrested.
Stating that 25 complainants included in the file were defrauded of 19 million liras and that there was a movement of approximately 600 million liras in the bank accounts of the suspects in the criminal organization, Çavuşoğlu said, “One of the most common types of fraud in our country recently is that there is a system that makes money and provides benefits by deceiving people by introducing themselves as police officers, soldiers, judges, prosecutors and lawyers.” he said.
Çavuşoğlu explained that various operations were organized on the issue under the coordination of the chief public prosecutor’s offices. Emphasizing the importance of fraud issues, Çavuşoğlu continued as follows: “During the recent operation, there are many people who introduce themselves as financial experts, bank or public officials, who gain unfair advantage by taking over people’s bank accounts by sending text messages.
Fraud and theft transactions are now carried out by influencing and deceiving people in the digital environment and seizing their bank accounts, rather than coming across them on the street. We advise our citizens not to share their bank, e-mail and phone passwords with anyone. It should not be forgotten that no police, soldier, prosecutor, bank officer or public official can randomly get over the phone.” “It does not take any action.
Official notifications are sent to people’s homes by mail, they are invited to the relevant institutions and the actions to be taken are notified to them. Additionally, they should not click on the text messages, links and social media notifications.” Çavuşoğlu pointed out that fraudsters are trying to hide the traces of the unfair gains they have obtained through crypto accounts.
