ISTANBUL (AA) – Istanbul Governor Davut Gül prayed at the Edirnekapı Martyrs’ Cemetery and the July 15 Martyrs’ Cemetery, which he visited on the eve of Eid al-Adha. Governor Gül, Eyüpsultan District Governor Arslan Yurt, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, Provincial Police Chief Selami Yıldız, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Lieutenant General Yusuf Kenan Topcu, 1st Army Commander General Bahtiyar Ersay, Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Regional Commander Rear Admiral Serkan Tezel visited Edirnekapı Martyrs’ Cemetery and 15 July Martyrs’ Cemetery.
During the visit, which started with Kara’s martyrdom, a prayer was made by Zeytinburnu Mufti Mehmet Münip Şallıoğlu after reading the Holy Quran. Making a statement to the press, Governor Gül said that it was the eve of the holiday and that citizens visited the graves of their closest relatives, as in all holidays. Stating that they have such a belief, Gül said, “We, as public officials, visit the graves of our martyrs in Istanbul.
Together with our colleagues, we always repeat that our martyrs are the closest people of our nation. We also start by visiting the graves of our closest people on the eve of Eid al-Adha. “We wish God’s mercy to all our martyrs who fell to the ground for this country and patience to their relatives.” he said. After the statement, Gül left carnations on the graves and prayed.
