ERZURUM (AA) – In Erzurum, those who lost their lives in the Israeli attack on the Mavi Marmara ship 16 years ago were commemorated. The silent march to protest the attacks on Gaza was held in its 133rd week. Citizens who came together in the program organized by the Erzurum Silent March team and the Human Rights and Freedoms (IHH) Humanitarian Relief Foundation in the garden of Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, walked to Yakutiye Madrasa, accompanied by banners they carried.
Speaking on behalf of the group, IHH Erzurum Branch Organization President Adem Macit wished mercy to those who lost their lives in the attack. Stating that they gathered to condemn the attacks, Macit said, “The martyrs of the Mavi Marmara left us a legacy. That legacy is the legacy of standing by the oppressed wherever there is, regardless of their color and identity. he said. That ship of hope was attacked in international waters, in front of humanity, with a barbarity that disregarded law and conscience.
They took our brother Macit, Furkan, Cevdet, Necdet, İbrahim, Fahri, Ali Haydar, Cengiz, Çetin and Süleyman away from us. Mavi Marmara is not just a ship stopped in the Mediterranean, it is the borderline of humanity. he said. After the prayers, the participants left the area.
