ANTALYA (AA) – Antalya Blue Mediterranean Initiative program was held in Alanya district of Antalya within the scope of June 5 World Environment Day events. Alanya District Governor Şakir Öner Öztürk, Alanya Deputy Mayor Haydar Uyar, TÜRÇEV Antalya Provincial Coordinator Mustafa Ergiydiren, mayoral advisors, council members, institution directors, representatives of non-governmental organizations and many students and teachers attended the program held in Damlataş 100th Year Atatürk Park with the slogan “The Sea is Always Clean in Antalya”.

Speaking at the program, Alanya District Governor Şakir Öner Öztürk stated that a concrete target was determined throughout Antalya with the motto “The Sea is Always Clean in Antalya” and emphasized that the seas should be kept clean and transferred to future generations in a healthy way. Alanya Deputy Mayor Haydar Uyar also noted that the ultimate goal of environmental efforts is to create a sustainable environment.

Pointing out that waste production should be reduced, Uyar stated that, as Alanya Municipality, they have implemented important practices and studies with the relevant units. Within the scope of the program, awards were given to the schools that ranked highest in the Waste Battery Collection Campaign organized in cooperation with Alanya Municipality and District National Education Directorate. Flags were delivered to 15 schools that were entitled to receive Green Flag within the scope of the Eco-School Project.

The program, in which awards were given to the winners of the Most Beautiful Balcony and Garden Competition organized by the Municipality to raise environmental awareness, continued with protocol members and students collecting garbage on the coastline.
