A large-scale operation was organized against Buca Municipality within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. It was reported that many people, including Buca Mayor Görkem Duman, were detained during simultaneous operations carried out in 6 provinces, centered in Izmir. It was reported that in the operation carried out by the police forces under the coordination of the Financial Crimes Department, detailed investigations were carried out on municipal units and some subsidiaries.
Allegations in the investigation file include irregularities in zoning processes, bribery relations and misuse of public resources. Within the scope of the investigation, it was claimed that some municipal resources were used for personal expenses, salaries were paid to people who did not actually work, and irregularities were detected in some administrative processes. In addition, it was stated that there were also allegations of assault against some people who reported on municipal activities or shared on social media.
It was stated that a total of 62 suspects were prosecuted within the scope of the operation, including municipal managers, technical personnel, subsidiary employees and some business people. It was learned that the investigation process is continuing and the suspects in custody are being processed at the police station.
