ŞIRNAK (AA) – EKREM PAYAN – The rocky slopes around the Kentli village of Şırnak’s İdil district are covered with steel nets for the safety of the village residents. The Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate (AFAD) teams, who took action upon the application of Kentli village headman Abdulhalim Arslan to the Governorship, carried out a study with a drone on the slopes located at dominant points in the north, east and west directions of the village and pose a risk to the settlement.

A detailed risk map of the region was prepared, and the size, location and coordinates of the rocks were determined. In line with the examination and analysis, the work was carried out within the scope of the project prepared to eliminate the risk of rocks falling on residential areas in the village of 35 households. A contractor company’s team of 15 people who received mountaineering training started working on an area of approximately 8 thousand square meters 10 months ago under the coordination of AFAD.

With the work carried out to ensure the safety of citizens, three slopes are covered with steel nets, rocks that are at risk of falling are fixed, and rocks that are in the gap and cannot be fixed are safely exploded with dynamite to reduce the risk. – Our citizens will be able to sit safely in their homes. AFAD Provincial Director Muzaffer İşlek told the AA correspondent that there is a risk of falling rocks around Kentli village, and that the village headman and residents have applied to the Governorship to solve this problem.

Stating that inspections and findings were made in the field upon the instructions of the Governorship and a report was prepared, İşlek said, “We submitted the report we prepared to the AFAD Presidency. We started to implement it with the approval of our Presidency. We have left 95 percent of the implementation phase of the project behind. he said. Stating that they covered approximately 8 thousand square meters of surface with the project, İşlek stated that they fixed these rocks in place with 130 pieces of 5-meter-long steel bolts (high-strength steel bolts with hexagonal heads and screws, used to connect structural elements together or fix steel structures to the concrete ground).

İşlek noted: “Later, we completed the barrier application, which is 270 meters long and 5 meters high, with an energy prevention capacity of 5 thousand kilojoules. These barriers are a special barrier system that can absorb rocks with an energy of 5 thousand kilojoules. In our calculations, we determined that we could not fix nearly 130 rock blocks with a barrier or fix them in place. For these, we use Pyrotechnic Cartridge Technology, which we brought from abroad with special permission.

After cutting it into small pieces with explosives on site, we will take these pieces in a controlled manner and remove them from the village. Our village residents will continue to live their lives in peace, with security of life and property in their village. – We explode it with a very special technology. Stating that the village people want to continue their lives in their villages, İşlek emphasized that by finding such a solution, they made it possible for them to live safely without moving the village.

Işlek: We cover the rock to be blasted so that its pieces do not harm the environment. We explode it with a very special technology. It is a type of explosive that is nature-friendly, does not harm the environment and does not cause any mess. In this way, we ensured the life safety of our citizens in the village. he said. – Our state took care of us. Village headman Arslan explained that their village is located in a historical settlement within 3 slopes, and that they experienced great difficulties as a result of rockfall, especially in the winter months.

Arslan stated that the rocks breaking off from the slope damaged the houses, barns and pens and sometimes caused the death of the animals, and stated that they were satisfied with the work carried out for the security of the village. Arslan, our State took care of us. Now people in the village will be able to sleep comfortably in their homes. I thank everyone who offered support. he said. Osman Arslan, one of the residents of the village, said that they experienced great difficulties due to the falling rocks.

Explaining that rocks fell due to rain during the winter months, Arslan said, AFAD worked for our life safety. We are very pleased for the service. We would like to thank our Governor and District Governor for their efforts. May our state exist. he said.
