NEVŞEHİR (AA) – BEHÇET ALKAN – 36-year-old Fatih Uğurlu, who continues his almost forgotten blacksmithing profession in Nevşehir, travels from city to city with his vehicle, which he converted into a mobile workshop, and takes care of horses’ horseshoes. Uğurlu, who started working as a farrier after graduating from Kocaeli University Kartepe Equine Vocational School Equine and Coaching Program, has been continuing his profession for 15 years.
The mobile farrier carries out the foot, hoof and horseshoe care of the horses used on tourist tours in Cappadocia, as well as racing, show and hobby horses by going to different provinces. – “For the health of horses, horseshoes need to be changed every 45-50 days.” Fatih Uğurlu told the AA correspondent that he continued his profession with manual labor, which he trained for, as he has been interested in horses since childhood.
Explaining that he travels from city to city with his vehicle, in which he has installed all the tools he can use in his professional field, exploring new places and continuing the job he loves, Uğurlu said: “We do mobile farriery. Previously, farriers were stationary. I work mobile because the horses are in different places. I go to the east, west, south, north, all over Turkey. Currently, I serve approximately 17 cities.
I am trying to respond to requests from other provinces. Blacksmithing is a profession that requires manual labor. It is a bit closed to technology because it is a handicraft, so it is difficult to develop technologically. All our tools are ready in our vehicle so that we do not get left behind or looking for an ingredient when we go anywhere. For the health of the horses and their avoidance of injuries, horseshoes should be changed routinely every 45-50 days.
Because when hoof care is not done, tendon injuries and gait disorders occur in horses.” – “This is more than a profession for me, it is a love.” Stating that the farriery profession is financially lucrative, Uğurlu advised young people who have a connection with horses to start farriery. Uğurlu stated that he is determined to continue his profession until he is old enough and said, “This has become more than just a profession for me, it has become a passion, a lifestyle, a lifestyle.
Because I love horses very much, I also love my profession very much. It’s a difficult job, it’s not something we can do if we don’t like horses. Since these professions are generally passed down from father to son, people who are not in the horse riding community are not very interested in becoming a blacksmith.
